Get your kicks on Route 66.
Sugar kicks, that is- at The Donut Man, where the freshest of donuts are split open like pitas and filled with luscious seasonal fresh strawberries, before they're coated with fresh strawberry juice and jam. Chocolate, cheese-cake and regular variety donuts are of course also available at this local Glendora treat shop. Delicious!

Feel no guilt from indulgence as you walk off the calories on the The Ben Overturff Trail

Just 25 minutes up the road from Donut Man, this 4hr, (7 mile) mellow hike seems to have it all: Stunning and undisturbed wilderness, a nearby waterfall, the only Natural Bridge in the San Gabriel Valley and you guessed it- graffiti covered pipes, with tag artists' names from the early 1900's. Before we reach the end of the trail, we'll even get to see the concrete foundation of the original lodge (an old weekend getaway spot, that hasn't been in use since the 1940's).

More on hiking supplies to be provided to 'yes' and 'wait list requests' prior to the event.

This successful event was first held last Father's Day weekend.

Last year, after this adventure, we devoured world famous pastrami at The Hat restaurant right near our starting point; Perhaps we'll do that again?

We should be back before 4pm.

Flakes are delicious if we're talking about doughnuts, but not if we're talking about 'Yes RSVP's' who no-show! Please be courteous to your fellow UA enthusiasts! smile

    •  Lured to food/places unknown... strawberry donuts... a hike to burn it off... a pastrami sandwich after... I'm thinking how bad could it be? I workout to eat. So, I finally stepped outside my comfort zone and met up with these UA folks not knowing a single soul. All I can say is, "wtf took me so long?!?!" These are my people. These people are awesome! Elissa, thanks for organizing such a great event. It was truly a magic day. The rain. The mud. The hike. The people. The deer!!! I could go on and on but will refrain. Good time for sure. I will be back for more.
    •  It was a really good hike, great weather and everybody was so friendly and cool. And the foodie in me couldn't help but bring home a bunch of delicious donuts! Great find, Elissa and thanks so much for organizing!

Our food event with some walking in the middle, (as Howard termed this) was a great success. People came well prepared for our 4 hour hike and got along fabulously. Donut Man captured everyone's taste-buds and the Overturf trail, in it's glorious wetness captured our hearts. A lovely canopy of green was above us, a light mist fell around us and after viewing the old cabin site, our eyes were set on the true prize- The Hat and it's award winning pastrami! We even saw deer crossing en route home. Thanks everyone for making this such a memorable day!
    •  great hike and amazing donuts. elissa is a powerhouse of energy
    •  Why didn't somebody twist my arm to buy a strawberry donut before the hike?! I'm a moron at times and need help. 'Twasn't until after the hike that I tasted Elissa's and discovered how delectable it is. I'm still in a delirium. The hike was nice too, and the company fantastic.
    •  Delicious donut, beautiful hike, and it was great to see familiar faces, and very cool new people.
    •  Great food event with a moderate walk in between.

I was looking forward to it all week and am sure it was great, but unfortunately woke up sick as a dog and am sitting here at home wishing I was there!
    •  The weather turned out perfect for the trail, started out in just barely less than a drizzle, the clouds hung out and enveloped us in a comfortable mist throughout the hike.
    •  The Donut Man was great! Strawberries, YUMMY! The hike, for me, was a bit challenging but I rose to the occasion and I am so glad to have support all the way! :)
    •  Elissa was a great leader. Organized, well-informed and took great pains to look out for some of the hikers whose level was below that of the majority of the group. The hike itself was kickass... a hell of a workout, beautiful, leafy and green, streams, with a few ruins, steep but yet no scary dropoffs. The donuts were good too.
