What do you get when you bring together a big group of acrobats, aerialists, fiery burlesque dancers, gothic stilt walkers, punk rock clowns and contortionist under the big top? No, not PT Barnum's worst nightmare, though its been described that way.
It's Cirque Berzerk, the adult-oriented, animal-less circus returns to the Los Angeles State Historic Park aka "The Cornfield". And we'll be peeping the June 27th 7:00pm show! LA's Cirque Berzerk is a bit grungier and more sinister than a typical circus. The 35-member troupe is a tight knit family of performers who put a dark spin on contemporary circus theater.
"Beneath," the production's theme, tells the story of a misunderstood girl who gets lured into the cabaret of the underworld through the art of acrobats, aerialists, contortionists, cabaret dancers, punk rock clowns, fire dancers, and psychedelic vaudvillian tomfoolerists. And this year's event boasts seven new acts and pre- and post-show fun.
Purchase your tickets for the June 27, 2009, 7:00 pm show. Due to the popularity of this event, we will not be able to arrange group seating. However, feel free to contact other attending members to possibly arrange getting your tickets together. We highly recommend that you purchase your tickets early as availability cannot be guaranteed.
FYI, it has been mentioned (though not yet confirmed) that revelers are encouraged to arrive early before the show to dine (and drink) picnic-style around the big top Hollywood Bowl style - bring your own or purchase dinner on-site. Also, after the nightly performances, the audience is invited to join the Cirque Berzerk circus troupe and enjoy a live performance by VAUD & THE VILLAINS (See their video at vaudandthevillains.com) at the nightly post-show party held in the "The Berzerk Lounge," a club- like atmosphere adjacent to the big top.
Regardless as to whether this is confirmed, we plan to meet beforehand - time, location, and contact info TBA.
“ The way a circus should be, full of artistry and wonderful costumes, and a little dark, like Tim Burton(love him) meets Cabaret. I could see it again, and I just may. Thanks Henry and Pauline for another wonderful urban adventure. ”
“ What a fun night. :D It's like a mini Cirque de Sole. The performers were amazing and the band, Vaud and the Villians are great band! I'd like to see them again. Thanks Henry for finding this one! ”
