Power Grid Vulnerability (facts vs. myth)

It may not be nearly as bad as the hype would lead you to believe. There is a lot of fear and bad information out there on this subject. Not to mention bad movies. The news has done their usual terrible job covering it in sound bites.  While new unclassified scientific studies are now available, most of the discussion on the internet and TV still just parrot the old and far poorer data.  There are also practical things you can do to be prepared, without spending big bucks. Want to get together and discuss the new information?  I have a presentation that is about an hour, including the video.

Phenomenal presentation! Mike digested hundreds, if not thousands of recently declassified government reports about solar fares, electro-magnetic pulses, and likely terrorist scenarios. His presentation was carefully thought through, giving us just the right amount of science. This information was extremely valuable.

For those attending, If you have a laptop, that has software to read Powerpoint, and can read Cds, it may be helpful to bring it. The projector at Gander Mountain is not wonderful and you could probably see the graphics better on your laptop. You can download a free Powerpoint reader at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13. The room does not have power outlets for everyone so charge your battery. I will have a Cd for everyone with the presentation and all the reference documents. Most documents are PDFs. Again there is a free PDF reader available to download. I will have a few paper copies, but resist killing trees without reason and the electronic is far superior.

Is this going to be 3-4 hour class? Just curious.

It really depends on how much discussion there is. I think the presentation will take just over an hour, without discuss.

I received a request to do this earlier, since its winter and people do not want to be out so late is case of bad weather. I have moved the time back to 5 pm. Hope that is OK with everyone.
