Sports and Action Photography

Sports and Action Photography with Ray Taggart

What’s worked well, and what’s not.

I may not have shot for Sports Illustrated…. yet.  But I have shot professionally for the PGA, the ISU (International Skating Union), the PBR (Pro Bull Riders association) US Speed Skating,  US Soccer, Major League Soccer and Real Salt Lake.  I have photographed numerous World Cup speed skating events throughout North America, the 2010 US Olympic trials, two MLS Cup Championship games and four World Cup soccer matches. I’ve been fortunate enough to cover international soccer events in three different countries.

I’ve gone back stage and photographed Bill Cosby, The Eagles, Robin Gibb (Bee Gees), Andre Agassi and many legendary Jazz musicians.  I photographed Paul McCartney and Kenny Chesney, Journey, Stix, KISS, Foreigner, 38 Special, REO Speedwagon and a lot more.

I’ve learned a lot about shooting in weird light, in high energy and high stress environments.  So, I have a few tips and tricks that I have picked up from some world class photographers and well as learned on my own. Come and see what equipment I use and how I use it.  We’ll talk about workflow issues and deadlines.  I’ll talk about how to make money at this and licensing issues and how to get into different events.   We’ll laugh, we’ll cry,  we’ll learn…… but mostly we’ll laugh.

I’d really like to share my experiences with you.   Join me for an hour and a half of exciting, action packed fun.

Thank you for the great class. I have grandkids that do sports and dance so having these tools will help with shooting their activities when I can. Randy are you going to post your tutorial? I have the basics of how to do that but would like to have it written down better than my notes. Thank you!!!
