Talks and drinks!

  • February 3, 2014 · 7:00 PM

The third of february we'll be having talks again. The location is provided by Pluginc until 22.00. So unfortunately it will be a short event.

The event is sponsored by ElasticSearch providing us with free beer and pizza.

The talks:

Tom Kruijsen - Ember.js

Ember is what happens when you get a Rails core team member create a    JavaScript MVC framework. But how well do Rails and Ember play together?    This talk takes a look at tools for Rails that help you create a back-end    and tests for your Ember app.

Tom Aizenberg - Shuffler.fm

At shuffler.fm the focus lies on music content. In this talk Tom will talk about how to they recommend with that content and make it scalable.

Timon Vonk - Elasticsearch

I heard you're not using elasticsearch. You should. Elasticsearch is a very scalable lucene based, easy to use search solution with a lot of fancy extras. In this talk, we'll go over what it is, how it works and what does. After that, we'll dive into some examples.

Kero van Gelder - Philips Hue @ NYE Ball Drop NYC

How a living room product ended up on a cold, cold roof in Manhattan.    How 1 billion people saw something powered by Ruby, but will never realize it.

Nice talks, good discussion, unfortunate that we had to break up at 22:00.

Sorry about that! Next time we'll either have a different location when doing talks or start an hour earlier (for food only, and talks at 19:00)

Seems like I messed up what the testing gem was called: it's just 'konacha'. Anyway, I compiled a list of useful links of all the stuff I mentioned yesterday over here: http://tomkr.roon.io/ember-on-rails. It also includes my (fixed) slides.

Thanks for having me yesterday, it was a blast.

@Ivo: Thanks for the feedback. The point was more to show how to run Ember in a Rails project (it is a Ruby meet up after all). I also prefer to have as little code as possible on my slides.

Haha yeah. Less code on slides <3

Awesome turn up! Thanks! Will put up my slides (without the code) asap.

Is there an option to park a car near the venue?

    February 2, 2014

    • Steven T

Yes. It has a big parking. Not expensive too.

      February 2, 2014

    • Timon V.

Or you can park your car near my house for free and walk 5 minutes.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
