Awareness - Feldenkrais for easier floor-sitting

Timed near the full moon and geared towards meditators and mindfulness, this class will explore aspects of comfortable floor-sitting. Anyone interested in an experiencial learning opportunity to sit on the floor with more ease is welcome to attend.

Feldenkrais is a mindful movement technique used to improve:

  • Posture
  • Stability
  • Breathing
  • Balance
  • Coordination
  • Mobility
  • Confidence
  • Sleep

If you would like to know more about the Feldenkrais Method, please take a look at Wikipedia or the Australian Feldenkrais Guild.

For those of you at Chris’ birthday party at Yulli's, Jo was turning 45 degrees farther after an abbreviated five-minute class. The benefits stand to only increase in a class environment with more time to explore the felt sense.

You're welcome to contact Brent in regards to this public class and private lessons:

My intention in the first lesson was to show how move moving and moving one's self with the hands can ease movement of the whole system. The chosen movements with the hands were subtle and this led to some interesting discussions; the discussions probably detracted from the flow of the lesson. They did, however, provide ample space for sensory refinement and following curiosity-centered detours. This was a wonderful, inquisitive group to teach.

I can't cross my legs or kneel without pain, is this something that can be corrected with this system?

Thanks Brent, but my left brain is really wanting to know 'how' it will help; because I've never heard of this before I was wondering what sort of techniques are used, and aims, and philosophies. If simple stretching isn't helping me then how is this different? Apologies for so many questions, really appreciate it.

Hi, Jon, I'm happy to provide what I can offer. Feldenkrais is a holistic approach to movement through re-education by direct experience. If something hurts to do, we deconstruct the movement into smaller pieces to find out what Can be done with more ease. Sometimes that might be changing positions, at other times moving less, or even moving in a slightly different direction. The classes are designed to provide themes and within them a variety of options to move in their direction. One key aspect is not having a need to reach an outcome; the focus is on the process of moving, noticing sensations and finding ways to increase comfort. This way, learning between differences takes place. The long-term effects are having habiutal patterns evolve into those that serve the body-muscle system more and prevent wear and tear from gravity and daily life. More information from the international Feldenkrais community is here at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.o... .
