Ward Bell on Single Page Applications (SPAs)

Grooving with JavaScript Single Page Apps

The cool kids are heavy into rich JavaScript clients. You may be a .NET square but this is your chance to learn how to fake like you’re a hipster before you hit the Vermont weekend club scene. Know what a SPA is and how it differs from other web app architectures that want to steal its mojo. Go home with a little extra swag ‘cause you can say that you “require” modularity, you data-bind with “knockout MVVM”, and you “promise” to show data asynchronously with “Web API”. All that mumbo-jumbo aside, you’ll have a sense of the present state of the art, the tools, and the frustrations that await the SPA developer. Maybe your day job is safer than you thought.

Speaker Bio: Ward is a Microsoft MVP and the V.P. of Technology at IdeaBlade (www.ideablade.com), makers of the "DevForce" .NET application development product. Ward often obsesses on client technologies for business applications, data access, and development practices.

I liked hearing that SPAs are real and that the tools are coming.

His suite was shocking until I learned that he came right from California. Now, if I go to California or New Mexico I will know what I have to wear. The presentation was excellent.

Great presentation, easy to understand, was open to answering questions and clarifying anything that was not understood. Ward was clearly excited about the topic which makes it easier to pay attention to.

The presentation was very informative and Ward was a captivating speaker who did a good of sticking to the intended subject matter. I'm glad I went. I am left wondering how many more times during my career I will need to ponder the philosophy of fat vs. thin client. Of course, thanks to desert pizzas, it's not a fat client I'm worried about!

Great presentation. I thought it was great to see all of the advanced technology that goes into Single Page Applications and how they work.

I really enjoyed listening to Ward. He gave a very detailed and candid description of his approach to developing SPAs (given time constraints).
