Folks:

I must admit I had some trepidation about attempting to challenge the TSA on their own turf, until Jim and I went down to Philly International Airport a few days ago for a dry run.  Despite an environment that reminds one of Soviet Russia, we found out that under that frightening faade, its still America there.

First, there are no signs saying that distribution of literature is prohibited.  In fact, there arent even any signs prohibiting loitering.  As a test, Jim brought along a stack of flyers to pass out while I ran the camera, and no one not even the TSA agent that Jim had the chutzpa to approach and hand a flyer complained.  Not one single person, and we were there for over an hour.

In fact, it went the other way.  Everyone and I do mean everyone hates the new porno scanners.  In one telling moment, Jim handed a flyer to each of a trio of baggage handlers standing on the sidewalk in front of Terminal C.  One of the handlers said that everybody should know about the porno scanners, then actually taped Jims flyer to the front of his station!  Hows that for support?

Lastly, and most importantly, I did what I always do before we hold any large rally I called the Philadelphia police to let them know what we had planned.  The desk sergeant was not surprised (weve dealt with her before), and she only took down some basic info: date, time, expected number of people, and contact info.  That was it.  No permit needed (or even mentioned).  Were good to go.

I can imagine some of you might shake your heads about us notifying the police, but over the years Ive found its always best to give them a heads up, and this time was no exception.  What theyll do now is send down a few officers from the Civil Affairs unit to keep back the goons.  At past rallies, Ive seen them face down the IRS and defend Julian Heicklens right to smoke a joint at a 4/20 rally downtown.  And should the TSA finally rouse and take exception to our efforts, theyll have to tell it to the Philly cops, not to us.  No one can say they didnt know we were coming.

FYI, the rally will be held along the sidewalk in front of the departing passenger drop-off area, so its safe enough that you can bring the kids, if you like.  Itll be a great civics lesson for them.

So come on out.  Face the tyrants.  Let them know enough is enough!

                See you there,

-          Ken

P.S.  Therell be a sign-painting party on the Sunday before the rally, 11/21, starting at 7 PM at the Baggataway Tavern, 31 N Front St, West Conshohocken, PA 19428 (www.baggtav.com, [masked]).  Well be in the upstairs room (accessible only from the parking lot out back).

We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness.

Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.

Announcing a new Meetup for The Valley Forge Revolutionaries!

What: Nov 24: Protest Irradiating Porno-Scanners at Philadelphia Int'l Airport

When: Wednesday, November 24, 2010 6:30 PM

Where: Philadelphia International Airport
airport road
Philadelphia, PA 19153

Wednesday, November 24
6:30 PM: Assemble at the Airport Marriott bar (The Riverbend Bar and Grille)
7:00 PM Begin the demonstration.

Philadelphia International Airport is quietly rolling out the invasive full-body x-ray scanners. Passengers who "opt-out" are then given the "enhanced" pat-down (aka sexual assault). This may be the end air travel for the privacy conscious.

This is totally unacceptable. I will not allow my kids to be ogled nude, irradiated or groped by TSA perverts.

The Thanksgiving travel peak is a good opportunity for a demonstration.

The goal of this demonstration is to educate the public and rally public opposition to this technology.

We will also send a message to airlines and air related businesses:

  • We are not okay with being abused for the privilege of purchasing their services.
  • We are eager to fly again when this invasive threat has been contained.
  • Bring their full weight to bear in lobbying for the rights and liberty of their customers.

Components of the demonstration will include:
Sign waive and march up and down the terminal sidewalks (possibly inside as well).
Pamphleteering (the goal is 10,000 flyers delivered)
Media Conference at the "Free Speech Zone"
Open Letter Campaign to Philly based airlines and related businesses.

This will be a 100% peaceful demonstration. We will not be breaking any laws. We do not need a permit, but a courtesy call to the Philly police will be made to avoid any surprise reactions. No conflicts with the badged class are expected, but you never know how they will react.

Volunteers needed:
Sign Makers
Media Relations
Industry contact research
Handout /press release text writers
Social media communicators
Videographers and editors
