The classic annual event "Italian Day on the Drive" is Sunday June[masked], from 12 - 8 PM, on Commercial Drive from Parker to E 4th AVE will be closed to traffic for the street party!
This year THEME - Venice Carnival
Here are the highlights for you to photograph (as always be respectful to your subjects) :
1 The street will be transformed into "Little Italy" with everything Italian : food, music, fashion show, folkloric dance, classic cars, vespas and more.
2 There will be two main stages : live music, folkloric dance, fashion and contests throughout the day.
3 Demonstrations by four well known Vancouver chefs
3 By popular demands are Italian-inspired food contests: grape stomping, pizza tossing, pasta and watermelon eating.
4 Music includes showman Federico Fuoco, international singer/songwriter Carmelina Cupo and Langley’s youth Ukulele Ensemble.
5 Britannia Community Centre, a ‘Little Italy’ Kids Zone in Grandview Park has crafts and carnival rides, and a bocce court on 3rd Avenue.
6 Look for traditional Venetian carnival masks, decorations and costumed street entertainers
and whatever you could discover .....
You submit at least two photos from each of the six categories from above. There will be opportunities for different styles and compositions. As usual, constructive critics are always welcome.
Parking is limited, so be prepared to walk at least two blocks to our meeting point or take the transit to Broadway Station, bus will be detoured thru Victoria Drive.
There will be many people (estimated 100,000) on the streets, we will meet briefly as a group, then enjoy your party and photo shooting in your small groups or on your own schedule and pace.
Where are we meeting ? At SE corner of Commercial and E 1st Ave, there is a red building and a business named Red Burrito; further east on E 1st Ave, there is an alley, some parking stalls beside the alley, and the start of residential units. We will meet on the sidewalk near the first residential unit at 1:30 pm and begin at 1:40pm; if you came late, just jump into festivals.
We will begin the meetup heading South to Stage 1 and walk down to 4th Ave, then if those want to re-group, we will continue North after 3 pm.
for those not familiar with the area, E 1st Ave is a major street that is not closed to traffic. Streets north of E1st are in names, streets south of E 1st are in ascending numbers.
Locations of Stage 1 and 2 are based on previous years. From A to B, the distance is 1-km.
Rest of the venues you have to discover them along Commercial Drive.
....... Have Fun.
Please note there is no restriction on how many guests you bring, only those RSVP members could post photos; otherwise you are welcome to bring friends and families.
Thanks for coming and hope you have wonderful time
For those interested to go on your own, there is also Car Free Day on Commercial Drive and Main St on June 16.
