In December we have Nathaniel Brown of Inimit Innovations Inc. to tell us about using Ruby on Rails to create AJAX applications. He'll be setting up a wireless network in case you'd like to follow the presentation on your laptop. Following the presentation we'll have have a door prize draw, round-the-room introductions, and then open the floor for networking. Be sure to bring your business cards and a story or two to share.
About the presentation:
Ruby on Rails is the framework of choice when it comes to building the next generation web application. With an integrated JavaScript templating language called RJS, you are able to dynamically create JavaScript with ease with the use of Ruby. No longer do you have to manditorily use XML to have the AJAX functionality you crave. By using the RJS templates within the last major release of Ruby on Rails, you are able to directly use server-side variables such as data stored in sessions, to write your JavaScript and update elements on the fly.
Nathaniel will demonstrate the native functionality of the RJS templating library, and demonstrate some useful examples of how you can take advantage of this major milestone in streamlining your application development process.
