Our meeting this month will focus on programming specifically on "The State of Python". Where is Python in 2014? This will be a broad talk covering web applications, sys admin tools, CMS and the like.
Well into it's third decade of development, Python is a general purpose, object-oriented, interpreted and interactive programming language. You'll find Python being used in a wide variety of contexts, from high school education to the Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone miniature computers, to the web, to scientific applications, to natural language processing, to system administration and much more.
Our speaker this month will be Andy McKay. Andy is a developer at Mozilla, where he works on Django sites. He's been doing Django and Python for quite a while and likes talking for ages about how awesome they are. Before Django Andy worked on Plone and Zope and even wrote a book about it. Nowadays he'll blog about curling, politics, beer and hiking instead.
After the presentation, we'll raffle off a number of technical books and then adjourn to Steamworks for drinks and conversation.
It should be an excellent evening.
