Hike Alouette Mountain (Golden Ears Park, Maple Ridge)

Hi Everyone! Lets hike up Allouett Mountain in Golden Ears Park. The panoramic view from Alouette Mountain is spectacular. For many hikers the highlight of the trail are the virgin old growth stands of mountain hemlock and yellow cedar.

**This is an intermediate hike with 1100 meters of elevation gain over 11km and will take a solid 8 hours return trip (22km total distance). Please come well prepared with plenty of food and water. This is NOT a beginners hike**

I was on this trail back in May and there were numerous blow downs making for some tough slogging. By Late July all the snow should be gone, but I think we can expect the top to be a bit muddy. The peak is well worth the effort.

We'll meet up at the Sears Outlet Store parking lot just across from Lougheed Skytrain and car pool to the trail head from there. We'll leave the parking lot no later than 8:15am.

Total Distance: 22.0 km (return)

Estimated Time: 8 hours

Average Grade: 10.0%

Structure: Linear - Return

Elevation Gain: 1101 m

Start Elevation: 265 m

Max Elevation: 1366 m

I do! I'll need someone to guide us to the trailhead. Not sure how to get there :) Is there a map by chance?

I need a ride from sears parking lot. See u tomorrow!

      July 19, 2013

Just a heads up: Follow Rob's directions for the first part. Do not approach from the north, as 232nd Street will be closed just beyond the turn-off for Golden Ears PP. Once inside the park, turn left for the Park Headquarters and Mike Lake. The trailhead (with roadside parking) is ca. 200m before the Mike Lake parking lot.

It looks like there's a fair bit of demand for rides. I'll have my car at the Sears parking lot in case it's needed.

  • Robin (.

I'm going to need a ride tomorrow too. I'm okay with either riding with John and helping him navigate or just tagging along with Jesse.

    July 19, 2013

    • Adrian

I'll need a ride as well. Anyone have room for 2 more?

      July 19, 2013

    • Jesse

I still have room for 2 as well. Jacob is the only confirmed spot so far.

      July 19, 2013

  • Gabriel

I was going to drive, but it looks like we probably have enough cars to take everyone. Who still has space for one from the Sears parking lot?

I'm not sure how to get to the trailhead from Sears so if someone knows the way - I have room for a passenger! There is 2 more seats in the back but they're very very small. I would feel bad if someone had to use them :) But just incase....

    July 18, 2013

    • Jesse

Hi John, I can give you directions or you can just follow me if you can make it to the sears meeting spot. The trail head is just down the road from mike lake in golden ears park.

I did this hike last weekend - you're right about the gorgeous views!!! But there was still a LOT of tree fall and brush, especially from the helicopter landing area up. We spent quite a while trying to find route markers and climb over and under and around:) The last 2km were also still snow, but it was easy to walk on....sliding down was another story! Well worth it :)

Thanks for the trail update! There was lots of blow down back in May too, but hopefully all the snow will be gone by mid July.

      July 2, 2013

  • Jesse

I can also take 3 from the Sears meeting spot!

    July 2, 2013

  • Gabriel

I would love to join the hike, but I need a ride. I can wait in the Sears Outlet Store parking lot. I will share the gas, thanks.
