Food Cart Fest & Art Gallery Reconnaissance

This idea came out of a nice discussion at Trout Lake last Saturday... what's happening with the small art galleries moving to Main and 1st Avenue? And... isn't that the site of the Food Cart Fest each Sunday afternoon?

What a great reason to get together and hang out!

For this event, we will travel as a group for the full 2.5 hours we are there. We can sample some of the yummy food at the Food Cart Fest, and then wander around the new gallery area to see what's happening. If any galleries are open, we might wander in to take a peek.

Info and location: Food Cart Fest website

More information about art galleries moving to Main & 1st Ave: Vancouver Sun article

We will meet on the street side, at the western edge of the Food Cart Fest compound and WAIT ONLY 15 MINUTES for everyone to gather before heading in to wander through the food cart area.

NOTE: Please only sign up if you plan to attend at the time specified. As before, I'll send out my phone number in an email the day before -- so please call or text if you're lost or running late, and update your RSVP if you can't make it. Thanks.

It was great to see you all out today, and I'm sorry that a couple people were lost. It was interesting to try a couple of things at the Food Cart Fest -- and thanks to Tony for suggesting a meeting spot once we got there in case we got separated, which of course we did! After getting something to eat, I luckily found Nilofer and Betty, and later Jacqueline and Tony, in a cool spot in the covered seating area near the Vancity flags where we continued chatting. There was a surprise entry fee of $2 per person and we couldn't enter from any direction, but had to walk around to the creek-side main entrance. Other than that, it was spacious, the food I tried was yummy, and the music, company and conversation was nice. :)

The name of the place I saw is Vinci's Gallery/Caffe...very new...they still have their "Now Open" sign up. I'm going to try something fancy here...hope it works...I'm providing a link to the Google Streetview Map:

oops...that link didn't work at all, but Vinci's Gallery/Caffe is located on W. 3rd Avenue, just a few bays east of Columbia.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there! The Food Cart Fest is on a vacant lot near the address of 215 West 1st Street -- we will meet on the sidewalk in front and to the west of the Food Cart Fest compound. If you are there on time and you are on the sidewalk in front and to the west of the Food Cart Fest compound, look for us. We'll be there waiting for you from exactly 1pm until exactly 1:15pm.

I should have brought the exact instructions with me because I couldn't find anyone. I hope it was a good experience for you all.

The description says, "We will meet on the street side". What does that mean? Will it be directly in front of 215 West First Street? Trish: Will you be holding a Meetup sign? I've had some problems finding some groups that were not at the appointed places at the appointed times, and the organizers didn't have a sign, and the members weren't looking around for other members of the group who might not recognize the group. This can be a problem in crowds and it sounds like there will be a crowd there.

I'm going to a BBQ in a train park in Burnaby this coming Friday, August 30th. Live music and lots of great food for only $20, if you reserve a ticket ahead of time, or, $25 at the door. Free train rides all night long! Indoor seating in case of rain. If anyone's interested in coming to play with me, let me know!
