Please join me for the opening reception of "awakening..." Art Exhibition

Bringing together paintings from different series,"awakening..." challenges the notion that transformation or enlightenment is some higher, idealized state one strives a lifetime to attain. Rather, awakening ebbs and flows throughout our lives and is deeply embedded in the here and now of our physical existence. Offering itself, sometimes boldly in those "turning point" moments of life, and at other times as quiet gifts of presence when, in the busyness of our everyday, we notice the exquisite beauty of a simple twig. http://www.leemcintyre.com

Very unique style of art. Especially liked the bright colours, the aliveness and movement of the designs and the use of copper and silver leaf paint. Very interesting!

Thanks to all who atteneded the opening of "awakening..." last night. It was great meeting you and I enjoyed our artful discussions. For those who have asked, the exhibit runs until Oct. 3rd, so if you weren't able to attend last evening, you can still stop by and check it out if you get the chance.

Hi, Lee. I am intending to go this evening, but starting to feel a bit "off." If I don't make it this evening, I'll try to check it out some other time. I work downtown. How long will your work be displayed?

Does anyone know if I can catch the Davie St. bus at Granville & Georgia, or, do I have to walk over to Howe St? I thought the street closures ended on Labour Day, but according to Translink Trip Planner,I can;t get to Davie & Bute from Granville & Georgia!!

Just a quick update on tonight's art opening. Last night we hung the paintings and everything looks great. As part of this exhibit, I will be showing eight bas relief (sculptural) paintings that I completed over a 2-year period...this is the first time they will all be exhibited together which I'm really thrilled about. There is no fee to attend and invitations will be available to all at the door. The opening also acts as a fundraiser for the important work of the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation. If you would like to have a glass of wine, a suggested donation of $5.00 to benefit the foundation would be appreciated. I expect tonight to be a fun and welcoming event and look forward to meeting many of you there!

Is it true that the venue is mainly a hair salon and that it also operates as a florist? That's what I found when I Web-checked "Volume Gallery 1209 Bute Street'.

Hi Tony, from its inception, the owners planned it as a multipurpose space: salon, florist and art gallery. As art lovers, they wanted to provide an alternative venue for artists to exhibit while creating an opportunity to build community and support the important work of St. Paul's Hospital Foundation (partial proceeds benefit the foundation). I attended John Ferrie's opening last month and they had done a fantastic job of transforming the space for the event. Last night we hung my work and it looks great in the space...hope to see you there.

I'm not familiar with this gallery, but I'm always interested in seeing what is new in the art world.
