January Full Indie

Happy new indie year!

Please note, we'd love to demo your game on one of Ceili's screens, but due to limited availability please email us ahead of time to reserve a spot and to work out connection details.

DON'T BE AN RSVP SQUATTER!

Please don't just sign up to reserve a place and then fail to show up as this is unfair to other members.  We've been seeing a lot of this going on.  If you can't make it remember to change your RSVP so people on the waiting list can go instead.  Thanks for being nice :-)

The meetup will kick off with 3 speakers and then transition into free-form networking.

Schedule:

- Doors open at 6:30pm** (see note below)
- Speeches start at 7:00pm.
- Networking begins around 7:30pm

Bring your games to the meetup! It's a great place to get feedback so bring along your laptop or mobile device and show off your hard work.

Please try to turn up and grab a name tag before the speeches start at 7pm so that you don't disturb the speakers mid-flow. Many thanks for your consideration!

See you at the meetup!

** To help us keep things organized and fair, if you would like to make a short announcement, please be sure to show up at the start and add your name to the list.  Thanks!

Can we stop with the dirty RSVP squatters comments? I'm sorry life/emergencies/illnesses crop up, but if they were expected they wouldn't detract us and pop out of the blue, leaving people frazzled, upset, or hanging with their head over a toilet, I don't know. I know myself that until I had to cancel, I had every intention to be there, until I got so sick I can't really be anywhere. Give people a little leniency, you don't know for sure what happened, your makinh assumptions, and you wouldn't want them to do that to you if you have an emergency come up! Maybe they got sick, a child was throwing up, their boss kept them late, I don't know! But I k ow courtesy, and courtesy means extending the benefit of the doubt instead of thinking they did it just to annoy and be jerks.

But assuming every last minute cancelation is one is rude and discourteous to the people with a genuine reason to have canceled last minute, making them feel like shit for not dredging themselves out of the emergency to attend.

      1 · January 29, 2014

    • Kimberly V.

That's definitely not our assumption! If that's come across then I apologize. Life's complicated and I think folks typically have the best of intentions to attend. :)

Ummmm 11 minutes before the meetup starts, someone left and I got a spot, but... you know... that's a bit inconvenient........... plz try to de-reserve a little sooner? A day would be ideal. ***looking sternly at the RSVP squatters***

Same thing happened to me. Found out I was off the wait list an hour before the event and I already had new plans.

      January 28, 2014

  • Paul D.

Yeah, I kinda was at work when I was added to the list, and didn't check my email until 7:45. I would have loved to have gone, but that`s just too late for me. Maybe next time. If you don't plan to attend, please don't RSVP.

    January 28, 2014

  • Aiden V.

I just got invited but I can't go now and the change your RSVP link has disappeared so I can't un-RSVP! Sorry!

  • Barry Michael C.

Sorry, Got a terrible cold today, I'm a mess, Ill see you next month!

    January 28, 2014

  • Neil G.

    Hey Y'all,

Could we be a bit more mindful of the RSVP squatting please? Less than an hour notice before the event starts of getting off the waitlist is pretty impractical.

Sorry y'all -- I can't go anymore as of like 20 minutes ago, so I hope someone is free to take the spot.

    Cheers,
    Neil

This is ridiculous lol. I've been accepted from the waitlist a few times now, on the day of, but I can no longer go - again. One of these days I'll make it!

    January 28, 2014

  • Jalyn E.

I'll have to come next time - I developed a wicked cold, and I'd like to not infect anyone else.

Hello Indies! I'm the volunteer coordinator for the Vancouver Global Game Jam on behalf of Kimberly Voll. The Vancouver Global Game Jam has sold out of jammer positions but we still volunteers. As a volunteer, you can help out other jammers with your expertise or if you don't have expertise, you can network with other jammers and learn thing about game making!

It would be amazing if you could register to volunteer on our site: http://www.ggjvancouver.com/ (Even if you're on the waitlist, you can still register to volunteer; just let us know if you get in so that I can remove you from the list of volunteers.)

WOW, this fills up so fast. Can people on the waiting list attend the meeting? I don’t mind sitting on the floor

    January 2, 2014

    • Tim H.

You don't mind, but the fire marshal might.

      January 2, 2014

    • Kimberly V.

Often more spots will open up before the event as things come up for folks, so often people do still get in. Alas, the fire marshall is a legit concern, so we can't squish folks in too tight.

Just a reminder that the Global Game Jam is January 24-26th and registration is still open... sign up, make a game, and bring your game to the meet up to show it off and share your war stories. :)

Would love it if you joined us this year! -k.

I've got a new 4-player Ouya game in the works, I'd love to get some fresh eyes and feedback. Who should I talk to about getting that set up?

    January 2, 2014

    • Kimberly V.

No prob... arrive early and find one of us (Kim, Alex, Yanni, or Alain-Daniel) and we'll get you set up. :)
