Volunteer Walk

Hi Everyone,

I am planning to do a short walk with a little twist, that is volunteer to help make some lanterns for the Winter Solstice Secret Lantern Festival. We will start our walk from the entrance of Science World and walk over to the Round House Community Centre and then learn how to make lanterns and work with artists and help with a variety of workshop tasks. We will meet at the front entrance of Science World and walk over to the Roundhouse, which should take about a half-hour and then make some lanterns until 8:00 pm. Join me if you can. It's always a honour to give something back to the community. Also please let me know if you would like to do this on another night.

Please note: You can volunteer at any time during the following hours for helping with various workshop tasks and the lantern-making.

Roundhouse Community Centre - 181 Roundhouse Mews & Pacific Boulevard. Ask for Joey or  Naomi.

Daily from Dec 10-20

Weekdays 1:00pm-8:00pm

Weekends 11:00am - 5:00pm

Feel free to post up the time and see if others members are interested in joining you at your chosen time.

A big thank you for everyone who came out tonight to give some of their time to make some lanterns. Joey and Naomi were thrilled to have more than 30 volunteers show up tonight. The majority of people got a chance to make what is called the globe lantern with ginko leaves. The ginko leaves are from the ginko trees at Sun Yat Sen Gardens in Chinatown. They collect the leaves every years for the Winter Solstice Lantern Festival. Some people got to make candle holders for the labyrinth. I think the people who made lanterns had the most fun. It was great to see many familiar faces and a lot of new faces. There was a lot of laughter and lively conversation as we filled the whole room. There are now 24 globe lanterns hanging up to dry. Just to let you know this was part one; the next part is to add the candle holder to the lanterns. We don't get too many chances in life to make something with your own hands. That is always a nice feeling. Thank you everyone.

Thank you again for organizing this event Michael! I had a lot of fun making the lanterns and meeting the others and it was great to help out Joey and Naomi at the same time. I was also nice to meet and mix with people from the other meetups!

Hey Azi! I don't think its a particularly fast walk and you could always just join us at the community centre if you don't/aren't able to do the walk
