Up until the 1980's, Yaletown was a large warehouse district. It was established in 1886 when the Canadian Pacific Railway moved all of their maintenance yards from the town of Yale, BC. Today it is one of Vancouver's toniest and trendiest neighbourhoods. This walk will take us from its (original) northeast boundary to its very heart.
Where will we meet?
We will meet across the street from the Sun Tower Building (at one time the largest building in the British Empire) and head south into Yaletown ....we will end the walk at the Roundhouse currently the home of the first CPR engine to come across the Rockies. The walk will last about 2 hours. FOLLOWING THE WALK WE WILL MEET UP FOR A COLD DRINK/SNACK/LUNCH AT THE YALETOWN BREWING COMPANY 1111 MAINLAND STREET. 19 AND OVER ONLY PLEASE.
What can I photograph?
This walk will give you many opportunities to photograph the diverse buildings and architecture of this area including many of the cities landmarks. We will pass by some of Vancouver's character heritage buildings as well as some of the new structures that define why Vancouver is know as the "City of Glass". There will be some great street-scapes and being that this is one of the best people watching areas of the city a chance to capture the locals at work and at play....it is also a pet lovers paradise so be on the look out for the furry residents of this hood as well!
What should I bring?
- A Camera, It doesn't matter if you have a cameraphone, a point and shoot camera or a Digital SLR, any camera is fine.
- A tripod (optional)
- Wear comfortable clothes, shoes and bring your sunscreen.
