Deer Lake Park is situated in a peaceful, natural environment in the heart of Burnaby. The park is home to the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, The Burnaby Art Gallery (Ceperley House) and the Burnaby Village Museum. They are all situated in beautiful open spaces and gardens on the North Shore of Deer Lake.
WHERE WILL WE MEET: We will meet in FRONT of the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.......Parking is available in the lot off of Deer Lake Avenue....watch for the signs.....parking is free for 3 hours....you will be parked at the back of the Centre... head south through the buildings (you will now be able to see the lake)....look for us by the "Three Columns" on the west side of the building.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING: A Camera, It doesn't matter if you have a cameraphone, a point and shoot camera or a Digital SLR, any camera is fine.
Be sure you are comfortable.....and don't forget your sunscreen.
WHILE RELATIVELY FLAT, THIS WALK MAY REQUIRE GOING UP AND DOWN SOME INCLINES. We are walking on gravel trails at times, so make sure you are wearing appropriate footwear. This walk will take just over 2 hours, but you may choose to stay longer in the village.
WHAT CAN I PHOTOGRAPH: This walk will offer a diverse variety of things to photograph...the modern architecture of the Shadbolt Centre, historic buildings, beautiful open spaces and gardens as well as the lake itself, withs its beautiful flora, fauna and feathers. Burnaby Village Museum is like stepping back in time. Stroll down the streets of a 1920s village.....the village is a combination of heritage and replica buildings that represents at typical tram-stop community along the B.C. Electric Railway. Period costumed townsfolk welcome visitors and stroll the grounds. Other highlights include a restored 1912 C.W. Parker Carousel and a restored Interurban tram car. This will also be an excellent opportunity to photograph people and pets.
The gates at Burnaby Heritage Village open at 11:00am and it is free to enter. Carousel rides are $2.21 each. There are also guided tours available for $2.00. Recreational photography is permitted. Heed to the public and general rules apply, no blocking of doorways or entrance ways. For further information go to www.burnabyvillage.ca
