Snug Cove Walkabout on Bowen Island

Less then 30 minutes by BC Ferry from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver is Snug Cove on Bowen Island. This unique island community is well worth a photo walkabout for a couple of hours or the whole day. The ferry costs $9.15 for walk on and the terminal can be reached by bus from Vancouver. There also is paid parking at the terminal if you want to drive.

    Thx for organizing Geoff.
    Wonderful Day!

There are a lot of great images showing up in the last number of photo walks, and, along with having fun, seeing new parts of our locale and meeting fellow photogs, improving our skills is what our group is about. Good editing skills are also what we are learning. The reason we try to limit posting is to encourage good editing skills. Sometimes that is hard as many of us have great creative days, such as last weekend's Snug Cove Walk. I don't want to be the editing cop but as a rule let us try to limit posting to 5-8 images. Cheers to all and many thanks for making the Snug Cove Walkabout so much fun!

Sorry too, I deleted 2 now.

    July 18, 2013

  • Steven S

    Sorry, I misheard 8. I've just deleted 3.

    July 18, 2013

  • Doris F.

Just for clarification: I thought I read/heard somewhere that we are to post a maximum of 8 photos each. Would that be correct?

    July 17, 2013

    • Jan

Just as an FYI for everyone....the photowalk site itself does have a flickr account. It's the little icon right beside the Twitter icon - left side of this page under the All About Us area. You need to log on (usually with a gmail account) and then Barry will grant you permission to post. You can post as any photos as you wish there. We are restricted to the number of photos in an album so we (Kelly and I) feel 5 to 8 per person is more than enough. I prefer 5 as it forces people to really consider their photos. Each organizer can choose how many they want to put up - so the final call on this walk is Geoff's, and he has stated 5 as the number.

Thanks a lot, Jan, for clarifying! I agree with doing careful editing before posting. :)

      July 18, 2013

  • Candy

I'm sorry I didn't know there's a limit. I will have to delete some of them then. Thanks for clarifying that!

    July 18, 2013

  • Geoff D.

We talked about that at the ferry dock. 5 images is what we asking people to post.

For my wife and me, it will be our first photowalk, and I am really excited. At this point I don't really have a decent camera, but hope to meetup with some members, and learn photowalk etiquette. With Steamship Days on Bowen Island, and 47 attendees from this group, it should be a busy place. Please share any rules, recommendations & etiquette that you might have for a first time attendee.

    Cheers,
    Scott

oops - wasn't quite finished. The only real "rule" is with respect to carpooling. The "global meetup" rule is that each passenger contribute $5.00 per hour to help cover the cost of wear / tear and parking fees that the driver would be shelling out. Now, if your driver chooses not to implement the rule well they need to make that clear up front. Other arrangements to help cover costs, in some fashion, are greatly appreciated i.e. maybe the passengers cover the meal or parking or whatever.

Sorry - joined and didn't mean to - a case of "pressed the wrong button". Don't know how to unpress it. To clarify - I'm not going.

    Oops.

    July 12, 2013

  • Brigitte

I am now carpooling and have room for 2 more people if interested. We are meeting at the Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot on St Johns and Moray in Port Moody.

    July 12, 2013

    • Ana

We can carpool that way too. I am interested to meet with you there. Let me know what time.

      July 12, 2013

    • Brigitte

I will be at the Shoppers Drug Mart at 8:30 if you want to join.

      July 12, 2013

  • Ishita

There's an express bus from Waterfront station to Horseshoe Bay - that might be good. Can meet you at the Waterfront station if you like Patricia. Anyone want to take the bus from South Surrey?

    1 · July 4, 2013

    • Greg L.

The bus is the 257 Express and it runs along W. Georgia street and does not pass by the Waterfront station. I'll be on the bus, but will be picking it up at the beginning of the line at Dunsmuir and Cambie downtown. The 8:28 bus arrives at Horseshoe Bay at 9:11. There's a 9:00 that arrives at 9:43. I'll probably target the early one and if I miss it catch the 9:00 bus.

      July 12, 2013

    • Greg L.

Oops. Correction, I was looking at the wrong day (not WE). It leaves at 8:00 AM and arrives in Horseshoe Bay at 8:41. There's a 9:10 bus which arrives a little late at 9:53, so I'll be on the earlier bus...

      July 12, 2013

  • Geoff D.

Patricia, I still have room. I will be there at North Van side of seabus near MacDonalds at 9:15. I can carry 4 people, currently I have 2.
If you want to bring snacks great, although Snug Cove has a number of great places to eat. We can decide how long to stay as there is a lot to explore!

Hi Geoff and Patricia, I would love to travel together. Patricia, I will email you now. Geoff, I will also email you. Thanks.

Sorry, I won't be able to attend as I am doing a hike in Garibaldi Park. The Steamship Days event sounds lovely though, so I may try to get to Bowen Island on my own on Sunday for some photos (assuming I can still walk after the hike). :)

    July 12, 2013

  • Jack V.

I am sorry for the late cancellation but I won't be able to attend as I will need to work tomorrow morning.

I really wanted to attend this meetup :-(

I'll see you next time .

I was thinking to leave around 8am or so.

Hi Geoff, do we have to bring mosquito repellent; & a snack? Are we staying all day? So I'll be at the seabus terminal on North Van @9:15am tomorrow Sat. Thanks again!

    July 12, 2013

Sorry I won't be able to make it this time around as I will be working tomorrow morning.

Hi, anybody willing to carpool (with me joining your car :) ) from westendish/downtown or anywhere else on the way? I have never taken that ferry and actually never been to West Vancouver :) Thanks!

    July 11, 2013

  • kelly

We are driving.....parking is $12.00 for 8 hours

    July 11, 2013

  • Geoff D.

Candy, It isn't very far, I wouldn't worry about it. I will be there at 9:15 in the drop off turn around, black VW.
Ana, there is parking on the streets above the North Van seabus station. It is better on the east side of Lonsdale on 1st and above. Sometimes they ticket but not usually on weekends.

    July 10, 2013

    • Candy

Thank you so much Geoff. So grateful to have a ride with you! The drop off turn around is it in front of Macdonalds? I think I will park at Londsdale ICBC parking which should be free on weekends! Right Geoff?

      July 10, 2013

  • Geoff D.

I can pick up people at the seabus staion on the North Vancouver side at 9:15. Just let me know.

    July 10, 2013

    • Candy

Can I ride with you Geoff? Are we sharing gas money?

      July 10, 2013

  • Geoff D.

This weekend is 'Steam Ship Days' on Bowen island and there will be a number of lovely wooden boats parked in the Snug Cove marina. Snug Cove also has a great Pizza restaurant which opens at noon. There should be a lot going on this Saturday.

Not sure if I will make it to the ferry by 9:45, 11ish would be better for me. What time will people be meeting up again at the coffee shop in the afternoon, anyone and or arriving at the ferry?
