The Colours of Fall - Stanley Park Photo-walk Part 2 - Lost Lagoon

  • Oct 27, 2013 · 10:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Let's take advantage of the wonderful spell of weather we're experiencing and since it was so wonderful 2 weeks ago, let's head back to Stanley Park....this time we will head to Lost Lagoon.....

She's BIG.....She's BEAUTIFUL......and she's the BEST in the World! We all know Stanley Park as the shiniest jewel in the crown of our wonderful city and now the world agrees.....Tripadvisor travellers recently voted her the best park in the world!

Stanley Park covers 1000 acres of forested peninsula.....On May 12, 1886 the first order of business for the first meeting of the newly formed City of Vancouver council was to petition the federal government to dedicate the land as park. In May of 1887 the feds agreed to lease the land to the city for a nominal fee of $1.00 a year. From her Grand Opening on September 27,1888 to today she is where Vancouverite's head to relax & play and drink in her natural beauty.

WHERE WILL WE MEET?: We will meet near the Stanley Park Bus Loop on the path to Stanley's Park Bar & Grill just look for the red umbrellas on the deck.....From here we will head through the park to seawall...go to the right...go past the Vancouver Rowing Club....follow the seawall until you see the pedestrian underpass to Lost Lagoon. Go to the left and follow the path around Lost Lagoon........Just before the Stanley Park Causeway, go left walk under the little bridge to Pipeline Road, walk by the Rose Gardens...and return to our starting point. Look for the signs to Malkin Bowl/Stanley Park Pavilon.

HOW DO I GET THERE?: If driving, when you enter Stanley Park from Georgia Street go to the left at the first roundabout onto Pipeline Road....Drive about 100 meters and turn right into the parking lot for Stanley Park Pavilion/Malkin Bowl/Stanley's Park Bar and Grill, proceed just past the buildings...you will see the bus shelter...(If you miss the turn off into the lot, take the next one). If arriving by transit ....the Stanley Park bus #19 will bring you into the exact same area...you are about 25 meters from our meet-up location..just walk towards the Pavilion...Go to translink.bc.ca for further info on buses and routes.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING: A camera....any camera will do....a DSLR, a point and shoot or a camera phone, Dress comfortably for the weather......we will be on the seawall and it could be breezy and cool.

WHAT CAN I PHOTOGRAPH: It's all there....people and their pets, architecture, landscapes and seascapes and the beautiful colours of autumn.....maybe some fog.

The Photo-walk will end at this location as well.....because we cannot make a reservation at Stanley's Bar and Grill (patio is only open weather permitting and.... it was really chilly sitting outside last time) we will meet-up after the photo-walk at the Prospect Point Cafe for a coffee/drink/snack to chat and share our photos and experience...if you plan on joining us, buy the all day parking for $5...you can park anywhere in the park. Exit the parking lot and go right...drive until you get to the Park Drive and follow until you reach Prospect Point. If you are coming by transit and would like to come to the Prospect Point Cafe, please let it be know in the comments below....

RSVP Protocol - if you RSVP to this event and then can't make it please have the courtesy to change your RSVP so that people on the waiting list will have a chance to participate. If you are on the wait list and can't make it, please remove your name as well.

We are enthusiastic about photography and lovers of the City of Vancouver....however neither of us are qualified to answer any technical questions you may have...there may be more skilled members participating on the walk to answer your questions...if not Barry has kindly offered to answer any questions by email.

AT ALL TIMES, PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF YOURSELF AND YOUR FELLOW PHOTO WALKERS, YOUR PROPERTY AND YOUR SURROUNDINGS!

AFTER THE MEET-UP DON'T FORGET TO UPLOAD UPTO EIGHT OF YOUR BEST IMAGES.

Hope to see you there!

Kelly & Tracy

I think 10 meg is the .jpg size limit. I always make a de res'd copy that is only 1080 high which is all you're going to see on most monitors anyway. That uploads lots quicker and there is a very dramatic improvement in the time taken to display the full res image if you select that. That takes the .jpg from 5 to 10 meg (camera etc dependent) down to 0.5 to 1+ meg.

Apologies if I'm missing something obvious - are there posting guidelines for uploading photos? Maximum file sizes, or limits on dimensions?
    Thanks :)

Sorry I missed the group this morning. .. my bad. I saw Stanley Park bus loop and being an old time Vancouverite I assumed the bus loop at Chilco and Georgia still existed. When I think of it, it's probably been gone 25 years or more. Anyway I looked and hung around the Rose Garden until i realized i was too late or the group had gone a different route. Got some good shots... hope to meet ext time... Steve

Hi Steve, when I was planning these Stanley Park walks, in my head we would be meeting up at the Lost Lagoon bus loop! Too many great childhood memories of going to the park I guess!please share some of your photos....see you next time!

Are you thinking of taking the route already travelled (last time) or cross over to Rose garden & on to English Bay side, and swing back for lunch via Denman, perhaps? Just wondering.

Hi Neil, the only similarity is the walk to get us to the seawall then this time we are going to the right...over to Lost Lagoon, walking around it and back to our starting point. I selected the same starting point, because of the parking and transit stop.
