Stanley Park - Prospect Point Photowalk

  • Mar 17, 2012 · 4:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

NEW UPDATE:

Many photowalkers are using public transit to get to Stanley Park. Based on some requests, i have decided to change the starting point of the walk to the Stanley Park bus loop which is on Pipeline Road in Stanley Park. Take a look at Google Maps to get a good idea of where it is. There is also a public parking space right next to the bus loop, so it should be a good place to meet.

We will meet there at 3:45, if you are there earlier, thats also fine.

The Photowalk Route:

We will being at the Stanley Park bus loop and walk along the road to Prospect Point. There is PLENTY of subjects to be photographed along the way. You can go into the actual forest and do some great macro and flora shots, you can also get some great images of Lions Gate Bridge from different vantage points along the way. The road will cross over Stanley Park Causeway which will allow you to take some photos of the Lions Gate Bridge from above the road as cars enter the bridge. If you walk a little further, you will be able to get some great images of West Vancouver and the Lions Gate Bridge from Prospect Point. We will then get together at the cafe at Prospect Point.

Update:

I have changed the time of the Photowalk to 4pm so we have some softer light to shoot with. I am also rebooking at the meeting point and will let you know if there are any changes!

Thanks

Barry

thanks Stephanie... maybe a wildlife/nature bird sanctuary photowalk can be organized sometime?

Reno the owl was on Ravine trail off Beaver lake. It was hurt :( I hope it will be okay.
I have seen them before over by the Fish House restaurant (but I work in the park and that's twice in 18 years so they are hard to spot). Good luck though - heres a link http://www.stanleyparkexplorer.ca/calendar/pages/mar-1.htm

Wow, I just looked at the photos that have been uploaded so far... FANTASTIC stuff everyone! I love how we've all seen things differently -- the light, the colours, the angles... and how I missed some things completely!! lol Wish I'd made it all the way to the end (bridge), but it was not to be. Next time! Shall upload a couple of my own snaps in just a bit... keep the inspiration and creativity flowing!! :-)

    Great photowalk.

This was a very good photo walk which allowed photo opportunities the entire length of the walk. There was everything from nature, wildlife to industry to photograph along the way. The start of the walk offered the best that nature has to offer at Beaver Lake to Lions Gate Bridge and an excellent sun set at the end. Very well organized and once again very nice people.

Beautiful Day! If you missed this one....you missed an opportunity to enjoy that golden light in our own BC backyard forest. Again the organization was fantastic - name-tags, greetings, warm welcome, and help with all the technology that our cameras throw at us.

  • Jinsoo

Yeah, I got a cold, but I really wanna go there, cause it's my first Photo Walk in this group. I'm gonna go next time!

    March 17, 2012

  • James J.

Too bad you won't be there, it looks like it's going to be a nice day for a walk in the park. I'm not going to say no rain because I don't want to jinx it. Oooops I said it. LOL

    March 17, 2012

  • Jinsoo

    Sorry, I can't go there today... :(

    March 17, 2012

  • Jinsoo

Thank you, Siri! I'll be there at 3:45 :)

    March 12, 2012

  • Siri

Jinsoo: The event has been changed since the discussion on a 'walk to a walk', so now we're all meeting at the busloop at 3.45pm and walking together. So now you just need to find the bus to the park, and then you're ready to start taking pictures. :)

@Anthony - Yes, this is a limit that is put on each photowalk. Having more than 50 photographers in one place at one time is difficult to manage. I know this means that not everyone gets an opportunity to go on each photowalk, but it needs to be done. Hope you understand!

    March 12, 2012

  • Jinsoo

Count me in too. I also will be there 3:15pm.
Actually, it's my first time after joined this group.
I hope to have a great time!

    March 11, 2012

  • Anthony

So is there an actual limit of 50 photowalkers or is that just the way Meetup.com is setup?

    March 10, 2012

  • James J.

That is a good change and much more convenient. Thanks Barry. 😃

    March 7, 2012

  • Sheila

Count me in too. I will be at the loop for 3:15pm.

    March 7, 2012

  • James J.

Count me in for meeting at the Stanley Park Bus Loop and walking to Prospect Point.

    March 7, 2012

  • Siri

If the photowalk starts at 4pm, and the walk from the bus loop to the prospect point takes approx. 35 minutes, I would suggest meeting 3.15 at the bus loop. Then we have some extra minutes walking time, or time to wait for someone who is a bit late.. How many people want to join the walk to the walk? If you either comment here or send me a message, I can make a list and then we're sure no one is left behind when we start walking from the bus loop.

    March 6, 2012

  • James J.

Meeting at the Stanley Park Bus Loop is a great idea and walking to Prospect Point as a group will give us more time to get acquainted with one another. What time should we meet?

    March 6, 2012

  • Siri

Sheila, I don't now any other bus stops for the bus other the one at main terminal... Do you, or someone else, have any other suggestions?

    March 5, 2012

  • Mohammad Mustafizur R.

If I go there I will take bus 19, its last stop is Stanley Park loop. From there Prospect Point is about 35 mins walk (around 2.5km).

    March 3, 2012

  • Carissa

how long does it take to walk to prospect point from english bay?

    March 3, 2012

  • Sheila

Sounds like a good idea. Which bus stop were you thinking about?

    March 2, 2012

  • Siri

If there's a lot of us taking the bus, maybe we can meet at the bus stop (either downtown or by the park), and walk to the meeting point together? I know it would make it a lot easier for me, since I haven't been to the park before. And, of couse, it more social too.

Hi All, I think this thread might be causing some confusion. So to clarify...the Stanley Park Photowalk is going ahead as planned on the 17th March. In the future there will probably be a Photowalk at Olympic Village and if there is one, it will be put up on this group. My weekends are pretty full until then, so I won't be doing any weekend photowalks until then!

    Count me in . . . :)

anybody else wanna go OV on a Saturday? Barry... what do ya think?

    1 · February 28, 2012

  • Carissa

Is there still interest in doing Olympic Village?

    1 · February 28, 2012

  • Andre F.

If the weather is decent I'll be riding my bike down (pedal powered), if anyone is up for riding down with me from the westside that would be fun. Otherwise, if the weather is questionable I'll drive and can provide transportation for 4 from the westside as well.

  • Barry J B.

Hi All. I am relooking at the starting point for this walk and will let you know of any changes. We will still go ahead with the Stanley Park walk, so no changes there, what might change is the route. See you all there!

    February 21, 2012

  • Reno C.

im good to go on the following weekend. if anymore are interested....

    1 · February 21, 2012

  • Carissa

OV is a good idea for another walk. Maybe this weekend (for those who cannot make the heritage house) or the following weekend?

    1 · February 21, 2012

  • Reno C.

Hi Brady and all....if transportation and parking to Stanley Park would be an issue to most members. can i suggest Olympic Village near False Creek.. so many opps there available like landscape. street. architectural. water. etc....and a Mcdo and BK burger nearby...
