Inner Rhythm Drumming - Drum Circle

Be yourself; Everyone else is taken. Oscar Wilde

My primary goal, aside from drumming, is to help everyone feel welcome and entitled, regardless of playing level. Each player, through their own uniqueness, has an opportunity and obligation to contribute and serve the overall rhythm. Each of you is the only one who can do this, in whatever way you do.

And by doing so, we will aspire to reach that magic place where the overall rhythm we create takes on a life of its own, far

greater than the sum of our individual contributions. It becomes alive and moves where it moves, as we follow.

All types of drums and small percussion instruments are welcome. Bring what you like. I will bring a variety of small percussion instruments, bells, shakers, claves etc., for all to use freely, as they please. You are welcome to attend without a drum, and play my small percussion instruments.

I will go over some basic playing techniques and very easy rhythms for the beginners.

Cost: $5.00 Please bring exact change if possible.

Drum Rental: $5.00 If you would like to rent one of my ashiko drums, please let me know in advance. I will only bring drums for those who request them in advance.

More Stuff - If Interested

I have been a drummer since the early 60's. I made my living playing drums in various cover bands throughout the 70's.

During the 80's, as a school teacher, I continued to play on weekends. By 1990, I had sold my 2 drum kits along with various of other percussion instruments, including a vibraphone and xylophone. Then, in 1991, I discovered the djembe and began hand drumming. Later that year, I began making djembes and ashikos and continue to do so occasionally.

My website: http://innerrhythmdrumming.com (All of the drums shown on my site are ones that I have made)

I have facilitated many drum circles and workshops over the years and, beginning in the summer of 1992, I helped drummer David Liebe create the weekly Spanish Banks Drum Circle in Vancouver. Last summer was its 22 year. Thank-you David.

    Hi Heather

I will most likely run these evenings every second Thursday like before. Yes, drumming can be very therapeutic and healing.

If you let me know ahead of time, I can bring a drum for you to rent.

    Best

I have to work that night. I really wish I could have come out and try it. I don't have a drum, but use to see it in the park back home at the festivals. When is your next one. I could book that night off in advance to come out and try it. I hear it is very therapeutic.

Hi Micheline Thanks for your interest, hope you can make. By the way, I have lowered the cost to $5.00.
It makes more sense than $7.00.

Yes! Frame drums of all kinds are welcome.

Hi Dean, Thanks for letting me know! Sorry to have missed the last two storytelling sessions--life has been extremely full with the dance festival etc. Just want to thank you for the great healing and opening work through your sharing and generosity of spirit. The drumming circle sounds great too. I am leaving soon for India (for the winter) and will be back in the spring so I look forward to connecting with you again in the New Year. I have been talking to folks here about hosting a weekend of events on the Sunshine Coast and would like to invite you and Henriette in the spring to come in to do that. We can talk more later (I'm learning to let things unfold in their own time)... it can have a theme around rebirth, Demeter-Persephone myth, that kind of thing.

    In the meantime--happy drumming!

Hi Meera Hope your trip goes well. I would love to help celebrate and support your weekend in the Spring if it unfolds. Perhaps I could tell the Demeter-Persephone Myth and/or facilitate a drum circle. All the Best, Dean
