I'm more of an execution guy, rather than an idea guy. My business model is to help people with great ideas execute on them.
Business and technology.
I've run my own company since 2003 working with companies and university labs in North America and Europe on taking technology out of the lab and into the world. I'm a one-man-show so I've done everything (except accounting... some things it pays to hire an expert.) Deep experience in technology evaluation. I have a Ph.D. in physics (Queen's, '91) which coupled with my extensive experience across industries has given me a solid basis for understanding the hardware and software challenges in many fields.
Ubiquitous embedded intelligence is going to change the world. Modern PICs and SoCs are capable of what a decent DOS box could do in the early 90's, and we've barely scratched the surface of things we can do with that capability in terms of increasing the efficiency and safety with which we do things. I'm a sailor so I'm working on lots of things to improve my boat, for example, many of which simply don't exist in the commercial market yet.
Independent scientific and software consultant, working mostly in medical areas: computer assisted surgery, image processing, genomics. Image registration, algorithms, data processing. Recently doing more work in firmware/PIC space.
