Startup Weekend Winner
MyBestHelper.com won 1st place at StartUp Weekend Vancouver 2011. Co-founders Alexandra and Rob have been to many events with the Tech Co-Founders Meetup Group. Keep reading for a great opportunity to support our own members!
This win allows this new Vancouver based start-up to compete for a spot in the 2011 Global StartUp Battle, an international competition for the winners of the city events.
The startup launched this weekend is MyBestHelper.com - an online utility helping families find caregivers for kids and elderly that match their needs as well as values - the eHarmony for nannies! It solves the pain of finding a caregiver, and even better, helps find the RIGHT caregiver.
One of the co-founders Alexandra T. Greenhill, is a physician and a mother of three (and just an all-around good person!), who has experienced the challenges first hand: "Finding the right caregiver for your child, is such a relief! Leaving it to luck or word of mouth is what we did in the past - it's time to harness technology to create short-lists one can start from."

Bonus: Use promotional code 'lean' for $5 tickets!
FoodTree Open Data Hack (Dec. 3rd)
International Open Data Hack Day is Dec 3rd and the Vancouver event is happening at The Treehouse
There is an explosion in the number of services created to help people make better choices about how we produce, consume, and interact with food. Challenges related to the accuracy and completeness of data hamper the rate of innovation.
We have a range of datasets collected and want to write an open API that serves as version one for accessing an open data standard (and data store) for food information.
Rather than building silos, let's work together to federate and interchange food data. Your collaborative contributions will be documented and you'll be able to continue working with the standard and API through a central Github repo.
Hackers, designers all welcome. The event is free! Or $10 if you want lunch supplied.
