Public Library, Central Branch

The Public Library it is! There is a coffee shop in the atrium which is nice.

We have a visiting sketcher from Australia Urban Sketchers joining us: Evelyn. She organizes the USk Melbourne Sketchcrawl. Maybe she has some pointers for us.

As always, bring your own sketching materials.

If you want to sketch in the art gallery, a reminder that Tuesday evenings after 5pm is by donation so you can pay what you like to go in.

It was a great spot to sketch in. Lots of activity on the atrium concourse, especially with the book sale going on... and when it got too cold, it was great to go inside the library and sketch the people studying and at the computers. I think we should revisit this location again.

Agree. I now know at least one great spot to draw when it gets too cold outdoors. :)

Really enjoyable today, yes Catherine, worth a repeat.

Some of us are drawing outside Blenz in the foyer, rest of us on 6th floor looking down on the other group, literally only ;)

Sorry I can't make it. I'll be working tomorrow, as it turns out.

There is a cost for us to have this site on meetup.com so we should remember to give Sigrid a loonie or toonie.

Hi Sigrid! Thank you for organizing this event! I'll be back in town this Thursday. however, I probably won't make it because I'm going to a ceremony that day. :( I'll miss you. But next time then! :D

Yes, Opus Framing, you will find everything there. And then do some drawing on Granville Island! Unfortunately, I am working out of town this week, from my parents' place in Kelowna, so I can't meet up during the week.

Great! Have fun sketching around the city! I'll check out your artwork. :) Too bad I can't make it Saturday... But I'll see you soon. You can post your own meet-up on our page(anyone in our group are free to do this) if you want other sketchers to join you.

I am out of town this week, but hopefully my workload will let up before the holidays and then I can sketch with you next week, Evelyn, I look forward to meeting you on Saturday.

Hi Evelyn, does Liz Steele ever draw with your group? I met her once. See you in the Library atrium, Sigrid usually has a meetup sign, I have a dark blue baseball cap, says Navy on it, got it from a Kiwi.

I have met Liz as well, in Lisbon, although she is always surrounded by people (and tea cups, and teddy bears) and wouldn't remember me. A great person.

Yes. She has been in Melbourne a couple of times. So has Alissa - know her? She has red hair. Thanks - will look out for your cap. :) If you see an Asian with glasses and a bluish puffy jacket, that's me! See you all then :)

    Hi Sigrid,
I think the Library atrium is a great idea. I am going to RSVP "yes" - but with just a couple of weeks before Christmas, and clients wanting drawings before I close my office, I might have to "bail out" at the last minute. Hopefully not!

    December 3

    • Sigrid

No, no, I am taking attendance and will mark you for absenteeism ;) But seriously, whenever you can make it, will be great.

Afternoons are better for me on Saturdays so, yes, I think I can make it.

    Yes, I like the library.

how about the central branch library? it's big, has lots of tables in the atrium, lotsa people and many floors. best of all, it's free and there are many places to grab a bite if we're hungry. plus, if it's kinda warm outside, we can also sketch on the steps.

another spot can be the food court inside the pacific centre - i'm sure there will be lots to draw on saturday. if it gets too busy there, we can draw just inside the front entrance's atrium - there's a nice coffee shop there too if we're so inclined.

lastly, how about the skate rink at robson square. while it's not inside, if it's kind of warm, we can draw people skating.

i would love to draw at the art gallery but i'm on a really tight budget...

I think the library is good. We can draw in the atrium or in the library too: people reading, or there might be some views of the city from there. And it's free. You are right Don, the VAG is very expensive unless one already has a membership.

  • Don McNulty

Will keep thinking. Art gallery is $17 entrance fee. The tables in the atrium/foyer of the library could be a meeting place. A food fair someplace?
