Vancouver International Dance Festival - with models!

The Vancouver International Dance Festival is holding life drawing sessions from Thursday, March 13 to Friday, March 28. Along with an art exhibition this is taking place in the Roundhouse Exhibition Hall adjacent to Yaletown. All this is a part of the Dance Festival itself.
• sessions are free • noon hour and weekdays only
• dancers and life models will pose in either costumes or plain clothes
• Opus will supply sketching paper, pencils and other supplies free of charge (available for participants to borrow)

http://www.vidf.ca/activities/life-drawing-sessions/

Since the sessions are only an hour long, i am not sure if this warrants a proper meetup. As this event is at the Roundhouse, it could be coupled with the old locomotive. What to others think? The website is loaded with goodies, including some free events by Kokoro Dance.

Jan 21/14 - So this new info for this meetup - meet at 11:45am for the 12noon to 1:00pm draw the dancers session, then draw as you like in this area, maybe the locomotive,  the nearby marina or whatever, until 2:30pm and then reconvene at the community centre for our usual meeting to end the day.

Very good model and well organized by both the VIDF and the Roundhouse.

Just to add to the multitude of weigh-ins, I agree with Bob and Don. Just bring a sketchbook already, it is not hard to get one. It's fun to get one started and see it fill it up, I promise.

    1 · March 13, 2014

  • Don M.

Just to add my 2 cents worth, we always bring our own drawing materials and we should do so this time as well.

  • Junichi h.

Thank you for setup on such an exciting events, Bob.

Some people like my friend who may have come for the model session as main interest may come early enough to pick up the supplied materials, may he?
I wonder how much Opus'd prepare to supply. Or, bring own stuff. If weather permits buildings, street and plaza maybe of interests.

Once again, we are a large group. I am just sharing what the building manager suggested, which I thought was reasonable. Beyond that it is a judgement call.

      1 · March 13, 2014

  • Bob

Hi All! We seem to have grown to 49, souls! I decided to call the front desk at the Roundhouse Community Centre. Percy, who works there, suggested we bring all our own art supplies, for the model session too, as we might deplete the materials for others. Otherwise you know of course to come fully equipped, to sketch the old locomotive, marina, each other, etc. Also, we will meet in the Cafe area at 2:30 pm, when we reconvene to see each others work.

    March 13, 2014

    • Tiann

For the supplies, do we have to bring our own? I don't really have a lot, is that ok if I bring pencils and use their paper?

      March 13, 2014

    • Bob

Normally, urban sketchers always bring their own supplies. The building manager at tomorrows venue felt we were too big a group to take advantage of the free supplies for the model, which seems reasonable.

My first time going to the events, where do I meet everyone? Is there anything like a banner I should look for?

    March 8, 2014

    • Bob

The Exhibition Hall mentioned above is in the heart of the Roundhouse. Just get there on time and you will see us in that big indoor space. If you are uncertain, ask the staff at the main desk of this Community Centre. Perhaps I should alert them and I will try remember to bring an Urban Sketchers Meetup sign too. Also visit the link in the intro above for more details.

I am going and I will wear a dark blue baseball cap that says Navy on the front, underneath that is a bunch of wrinkles and a white beard, say hello if you see me.

    March 7, 2014

    • Sigrid

Yes! I can't make the March 14th meetup, but Bob set it up and will be there, so I set up the March 21st because I want to draw there too.

Friday March 14th is good. Thank you very much for this arrangement at Roundhouse. We could have more opportunity later date if someone liked and wanted more.

    January 30, 2014

  • Sigrid

I can join their drawing sessions after March 17 only. Looks like there will be opportunities until March 28, so that's great. This is why I am glad other sketchers are posting events, like Bob did here, since I am only one person and usually can't set up/attend more than 1 session per week. Also, I travel a fair amount, I am not always in town :)

    January 29, 2014

  • Sigrid

This one can be nailed down later, great find, Bob! Do we have to return the paper we draw on too? ;)

    January 16, 2014

Hopefully Opus will supply them too - artist quality that is. :-)

I am trying to set the date for this, on my Mac. Having no luck. Could someone add the date please. Friday March 14. For times i was thinking of meeting at 11:45am with one hour for the session (noon hour) and then perhaps continuing on for another 1 1/2 hours before we meet again.

Hello Everybody, I would like to suggest a meet up time of 11:45 am, for those who are interested and can make it that early. It might be a challenge to get seats. The session will end at 1 pm I believe. We can spread out after that. There is the old locomotive at one end of the Roundhouse and cafes nearby too. We could meet again at 1:45 pm to share our work.
