From the Dr. Sketchy website: "Bring your pencils and sketchbooks! Dr. Sketchy’s Anti Art School is what happens when a simple question is asked — why can't figure drawing be sexy? Part art class, part cabaret, join us for 3 hours of drinking, drawing and decadence!"
Translation: It's basically an alternative life drawing session. You draw from a model wearing an interesting costume, they start with 1, 2, and 5-minute poses, they progressively take a few things off, they do a short dance after the mid-session break, then do a few longer poses (10 or 15 minutes) wearing very little at that point. So you get to draw them both clothed and almost completely undressed. There is music, and while you draw, you can eat, drink, and chat with the other artists.
Here's how it works:
1. Buy your ticket online in advance at http://drsketchyvancouver.com/ or pick it up at Hot Art Wet City, 2206 Main (@ 6th), Wed-Sat 12-5. Cost is $12.
2. Bring your own sketching materials.
3. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
There is no real food at this venue (I think just chips and candy bars), it's mostly a bar, but you can get non-alcoholic drinks as well. So make sure you eat dinner beforehand to get you through 3 hours of drawing. Or leave early — I sometimes only stay until 9 pm.
