How about that...look at the supportive response, WELL DONE LADIES AND 'GENTLERMEN', I just learned there are not only writers in this group...we have anothe skier, when the snow beckons other things must take a backseat once in a while.

This year I picked up a lift pass for Wednesday nights - I wouldn't want to waste it!

    Hi Sylvia,

Thank you for organizing! I'm sorry to hear you had a bad day, and that one negative person probably added to it. I personally found Saturday's meeting to be really enjoyable and I'm excited about what might come of it.
I am interested in the Wednesday group too, but my attendance might be sporadic during ski season.

Thank you all for your support; it`s great to hear and really cheers me up after a bad day yesterday. I will be sending out an email shortly to summarise what we talked about on Saturday, and see if we can revive this vibrant and interesting community of writers.

    Hi All...
My chime: I´ve worked organizing events with Sylvia in the past and I know her to be an effective and inclusive leader. It´s a tough and thankless job, as David says. Lots of people (myself included) have benefitted immeasurably from Van Writers and Sylvia´s thoughtful leadership over four years. So... Thank you Sylvia!

I must agree with Erich - some are just going to be dissatisfied no matter what you do... Much appreciation for your organizing (Meetup groups are notoriously difficult) and I, too, would be interested in the Wednesday group, depending on availability. Thanks.

Agreed. Christmas preparations are taking over my life. But, I definitely want to continue with Vancouver writers in the New Year. I'm particularly interested in the Wednesday group. Thanks, Sylvia, for organizing this. I've organized and I know the work it entails.

Sylvia, I just need to chime in! There will from time to time be a angry person, this one obviously had a problem with self importance. I did reply to her comment earlier, but obviously it waas not enough! For the benefit for those that will be returning...A negative voice has been eliminated. A smll benefit for all!

    Hi again Laura,
Well, maybe when you start your own group, you'll realise that organising is a time consuming, difficult, and often thankless task. Apart from paying meetup fees without ever asking for contributions, and booking a room in person every two weeks for the last four years for our Wednesday group, I guess you find the work I put in insufficient. As I said, best of luck organising your own group, and in the meantime, I look forward to not having you in mine, Sylvia.

    Hi Sylvia
Well, all the other organizers I know in Meetup groups keep track of RSVPs and comments ... that's why they are called the organizers. That sounds a little sarcastic ... don't mean to be, just thought there would be a bit more organization and communication happening. And by the sounds of the other attendees comments, which I guess you don't recieve, other people felt there wasn't much direction or purpose in the gathering but they enjoyed meeting each other. If you are involved with vanwriters.com, maybe that satisfies any desires to connect with other writers? Anyway, I don't think this group will be satisfying what I was looking for - which is a group of people who write fiction or poetry and want to support each other through maybe some writing exercises and reading each other's work. Maybe I'll start up my own meetup group! Thanks for your replies over the last couple of days. I'll take myself off this group's membership.
All the best in your endeavors,

    Laura

It was great to meet everybody! However, I'm not sure what the purpose was. I feel like we spent a lot of time talking about blogging and social media and editors and not much time talking about organizing ourselves in some way. Still, it was nice to see that there are lots of active writers in Vancouver.

I saw it as an exploratory meeting to gauge everyone's interests and possible directions - and it was great to meet such a wide array of writers. It appears that what the group needs are a few people to take the reins to form smaller working groups.

    Hi Laura,

Sorry about that. I don't actually get emails when someone posts a comment, so please just send me an email directly if you want a specific question answered. Thanks! Sylvia

Hello? Anyone out there? Are these writers who don't write ... on a Meet-up site ... or writer's who are so busy they don't look at their emails ... how mysterious.

Hi all, I have a medical appointment Sat am but could get to Library Square at about 12:30. How would that be for you? How long do you think you will meet?
