These meetings always give a little inspiration to keep going - an eager audience that actually WANTs to hear about your latest work. Good for keeping a better input-output (that is, producing-presenting) balance. And it's just plain fun.
We get to hear a great variety of styles and genres at these meetings - and among the benefits is the camaraderie while slugging it out in the trenches of fiction~ (and other~) writing - often we are the first to hear an as-yet untold story, first to appreciate so-far unappreciated poetry. There are always a few bits of inspiration and encouragement to continue - because writing is a lonely craft - made so much more exciting when we know that an appreciative audience is waiting to lend us an ear (or give us an earful), instead of writing into a dark void of the unheard and unpublished.
