The dreaded M-word (i.e. marketing) discussion meetup

So, we all love to write our stories, of course. It’s where we writers excel! But in order to be real writers, we need to find readers for our work, and to find readers, we need to do something we’re often not nearly as skilled at:

Marketing.

Marketing and promotion represent the other half of the writing life – the business half. Whether traditionally published or self-published, whether currently published or still pecking away on your work-in-progress, all writers require an online presence.

With all the social media platforms that exist today, the possibilities for success – as well as confusion – are endless.

Two discussion kick-starter questions are thus as follows:

  1. What are you currently doing to promote yourself as a writer to your readers, and how is your progress in this regard?
  2. What is your biggest question about marketing and promotion for writers?

Other topics will also be discussed as they arise, in a relaxed, friendly environment.

New members welcome! Look for the RESERVED table with the "Vancouver Writers' Social Group" sign on it.

Hey everyone. Here is a link on how to connect your Wordpress.com site up with Google authorship. Takes about a week to have your picture show up next to search results. http://graphiclineweb.wordpress.com/2011/12/27/relauthor/

    Good luck!

It was great to see everyone and talk about everything in the world including the dreaded M word.

Just a head's up. I'm pretty sick today so I might not make it tomorrow. If I feel any better I'll be there!
