Halloween... do those of the Jewish faith celebrate it?

Hi to those in the Vancouver Science/Religion discussion group.

Our topic on Sun. [masked] is "Thoughts on Halloween" at 6:30 pm at Peoples Church in Vancouver. All details are here:

To spark some interest, I thought I'd write about a few topics.

Is Halloween an issue or problem for those of the Jewish faith? I ran across this article from a Rabbi, and thought I'd share it for some feedback and contemplation. Like the Muslim article, they recommend skipping the Halloween festivities and instead save the fun and energy for their own festivals which utilize dress-up, candy, etc. (in this case, Purim).

?Do Jews Celebrate Halloween??

Here?s the relevant excerpt:

"Make your kids feel that they are the vanguard. They belong to a people who have been entrusted with the mission to be a light to the nations--not an ominous light inside a pumpkin, but a light that stands out and above and shows everyone where to go. Forget about Halloween and wait for Purim to turn the neighborhood upside down!"

. . . . . . . . .
Feel free to discuss it here:
