Halloween... meme evolution in action?

Hi to those in the Vancouver Science/Religion discussion group.

Our topic on Sun. [masked] is "Thoughts on Halloween" at 6:00 pm at Peoples Church in Vancouver. All details are here:
http://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Science-Religion-Discussion-Group/calendar/12123210/

To spark some interest, I thought I'd write about a few topics.

I was reading an article about the Halloween holiday, and I thought it had a funny take on it. Essentially, it is an example of meme evolution, in this way:

1. Origins of Halloween is in Pagan Religious Celebrations.

2. Christian Appropriation of a Pagan Holiday.

3. Secular Appropriation of a Christian Holiday.

4. Adult Appropriation of a Children's Holiday.

Here's the article:

?Halloween in Schools: Do Halloween Celebrations Violate Church/State Separation??
http://atheism.about.com/od/religiousholidays/p/HalloweenChurch.htm

It is written by Austin Cline, who was a Regional Director for the Council for Secular Humanism and a former Publicity Coordinator for the Campus Freethought Alliance. He holds a Master of Arts from Princeton University.

. . . . .
