Hi to those in the Vancouver group. The following event is in Beaverton, but it is Sunday and the traffic is light, so you may also be interested in attending. Details below.
Tonight, Sun. [masked] at 6 pm, we’ll be having another discussion/debate at the church.
The topic is “The problem of evil.” I will make a presentation for a naturalistic worldview, and Pastor Nathan will give a Christian response.
If there’s a good and loving God, how can there be such over-the-top evil in the world? For example, in China between[masked] there were around 25 million people who died in a famine. Can you imagine that scale of suffering, 25 MILLION! Is there really a loving God overlooking all that pain and suffering? And that’s just one example.
Theologians used to blame all this kind of evil on our first human parents, Adam and Eve. They sinned, God cursed everything as a result of it, all humans inherited that sin, and one day Jesus will redeem everything back to paradise.
My claim is that we now know from science that there was no first humans from which all humanity has descended. So really, this Adam and Eve hypothesis has been falsified. So how can all this pain and suffering be justified, if there’s a loving and all good God overlooking everything? Pastor Nathan and I will be discussing the traditional theology and new theology.
I say it is impossible to reasonably reconcile. Pastor Nathan says otherwise. There’s lots of time for Q&A, so you can also add to the conversation.
