March Restaurant Lunch Visit at Maoz Vegetarian

  • March 30, 2013 · 12:00 PM

Come join us for lunch at Maoz Vegetarian, the fast-service falafel restaurant at the Triangle on North Lamar/Guadalupe. Falafel is their specialty, but they also serve hummus, baba ganoush, pita sandwiches, salads, fries (including sweet potato!) and even vegan pudding.

You do not have to be a VNA member; all our events are free for anyone to attend. Children and families are welcome as well. We'll have plenty of people there from our other online groups like Yahoo and Facebook, so we ought to have a good turn-out.

Hi Lynn, I completely hear what you're saying, I'm pretty new to the veg meetups and there was one time I left b/c I couldn't figure out who was who and being new and shy I just felt uncomfortable and awkward! :) But...this was my 3rd Meetup and I am beginning to recognize who's who. And they're our peeps! Please feel free to connect with me as I would also appreciate the support.
Welcome to Austin I hope you come to LOVE it as I do! Peace and Love,
    Lyn :)

The restaurant visit to Maoz was a success! Anne and Roy, owners of Maoz serve up very fresh veggie options and offer a great GF falafel. They were very friendly, coming around to the tables making sure everyone's food was good. Nice to see such a great turnout!

It was okay. We arrived a little late (10 mins). Everyone was in line or at a table, so me and my friend ordered, got our food and sat down. We sat between two couples who were talking to each other. We didn't talk to them or vice-versa. There seemed to be no one leading, greeting or introducing people. After eating, we left, having no direction as far as who to meet up with or what the point was. My friend suggested maybe Maoz arranged the meet up to get more business.

It was my first meet up ever and I'm new to Austin. Perhaps that's an excuse, however, I am just getting the lay of the land. I thought there would be someone there to make newbies feel comfortable. Both couples on each side of me never broke from their conversations nor seemed like they were newly meeting each other. If there was a leader with a name tag or something I probably would have told him/her that I was new to Austin and needed some help with introductions to others.

Lynn, thank you for your input! I think your idea of name tags is a great idea. I was there yesterday and was not certain who was part of the Meetup and who was a patron of Maoz during lunch. At the potlucks, everyone is there as part of VNA, so making introductions is a bit easier. I hope you attend future VNA events and if you come to Vegfest please stop by our VNA booth. I see you are from Chicago. My son went to the Univ. of Chicago so I know the city well; it's such a great town. Welcome to Austin!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
