The 25th annual Lone Star Veggie Chili Championship is in South Austin this year! This year it's being hosted by the Whole Foods Market at The Shops at Arbor Trails, on Sunday November 10th, starting at 12:00pm. It won't be in the parking lot—instead it'll be in the "green space" across from Whole Foods, with plenty of grass and trees and room to spread out. The location is at the intersection of West William Cannon Drive and the southbound feeder road of MoPac. The entire event is completely vegan.
Come cheer and vote for the VNA's chili team, being helmed by director Sarah Saltmarsh, and we also need volunteers to staff our information table. In addition to sampling all the chilis, there'll be live music by the Texas KGB, and cooking demos by Chef Dan Marek and by Natural Epicurean. There'll also be vegan food vendors, door prizes, kids activities, pet adoptions, and the return of last year's called the "Rapid Chili Challenge", with chefs in a timed contest like on Food Network.
Admission is $10 for adults, and $7 for seniors, college students, veterans and kids age 6-12 (5 and under free). There'll be around two dozen chili teams from Austin and the rest of Texas, and possibly beyond, competing for cash prizes and bragging rights for best vegan chili.
