This isn't really a VNA event, but I figured I'd put it on the schedule. The Lone Star Vegetarian Chili Cookoff is coming up on Sunday November 7th (Old Settlers Park in Round Rock), and they're having a sort of "pre-launch" or "kickoff" party at Counter Culture this Friday night.
Counter Culture is the mostly-raw/all-vegan trailer that started the vegan trailer thing off with two summers ago. Sue's Philly Seitan and Jackfruit BBQ sandwiches are classics, but now she's got a few new offerings like her spicy black bean hummus and Mudslide pie. (Please note, Counter Culture is cash-only, and you can get a beverage in the next-door convenience store.)
The Lone Star Vegetarian Chili Cook-off has been an annual event since 1989(!!), awarding cash prizes to vegan chili teams who come from around the state to compete. This year's event really needs help with volunteers. Anyone who signs up for a 3-hour shift gets free admission. They need people to help with taking tickets, assisting the judges and staff, setting up equipment, taking down and loading out at the end of the day, being "vegan police" (to check the ingredients!), and just general gophering-type stuff.
So come out to Counter Culture, enjoy some awesome food you KNOW you want, and get in on the excitement about the Lone Star Vegetarian Chili Cook-off!
