Sa-Bai Thong really knows how to serve a great vegan meal. Our dinner last year got rave reviews for the delicious food and the great service. Now, they're going to host a vegan lunch for us. The menu will be:

Appetizer
Summer Roll
Lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, bean sprouts, cilantro, mint, and tofu, served with plum sauce and ground peanuts.

Soup
Tom Ka
Coconut milk soup with tofu, chili paste, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, mushrooms, galangal, cilantro, and other herbs and spices.

Entrees
Pad Thai
Small rice noodles stir fried with bean sprouts, green onion, shredded cabbage, radishes, ground peanuts, and tofu. (No eggs.)

Mixed Vegetable Curry
Yellow curry sauce with broccoli, potato, carrot, zucchini, onion, and tofu.

Dessert
Sticky rice with mango.

Beverages
Soda and tea, with refills.

Since the group has gotten so big, it's been difficult to talk to anyone who's not seated right next to you at our meals. For this event we're going to start things out a little differently. When you arrive you'll get a beverage and we'll make some time for mingling. Then after about 15 minutes we'll sit down and start the meal. (For those who haven't attended an event before, I want to reassure you that you'll find people to be very welcoming.)

The $16.00 fee includes everything mentioned above, tax, and the tip. Sa-Bai Thong is giving our group a great deal. A meal like this would normally cost about $33.50! ($27.05 for the meal, $5.00 for the tip, and $1.49 for tax.) For the price comparison I only counted half the cost of each entree.

Payment Information:
Pre-payment is required. If you would prefer to send a check instead of using PayPal (payment link above), contact me and I will give you my mailing address.

The $16 fee includes a little extra to cover PayPal's fees (76 cents) as well as Meetup.com's $144 annual cost.

Payment Deadline:
Please pay on or before Thursday, June 11th. At the event, I will have a list of people who RSVPed and a list of people who paid. You must be on both lists to attend. If you have any questions or concerns about this feel free to let me know.

Refund Policy:
If you cancel before the payment deadline you will get a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations after the deadline or if you do not show up to the event. If something comes up at the last minute you are welcome to find someone else to attend instead of you. The reason refunds are not given after the deadline is that I agree to pay the restaurant for everyone who has paid me at that point.

Can I RSVP now, but wait to pay?
Yes. As long as I receive your payment by the deadline there shouldn't be a problem. And it will actually help others gauge the interest in this event if you sign up right away. However, if the event fills up, I will remove the RSVPs of people who haven't paid so that others who are interested can attend. (RSVPs can be changed until the payment deadline, if necessary.)

Why can't I RSVP as a 'maybe'?
Meetup.com counts 'maybe' RSVPs as part of the total attending. Since this event has a maximum number, 'maybe' RSVPs could prevent someone else from going. I've made repeated suggestions for them to change the way they count 'maybe' RSVPs, but until they update their software, I won't include the 'maybe' option for events that have a maximum number.

What about kids?
Kids are welcome, but pay full price. Exception: Small children who will only nibble off of your plate can attend at no charge. Include all kids as guests when you RSVP and write their ages in the notes area of your RSVP.

This is a vegetarian group. Why is the dinner vegan?
As a vegetarian, it's not unusual for me to be at an event where there is little (or nothing) for me to eat. This group has members who are vegetarian, vegan, and just interested. Everyone is welcome. I think it's important for our events to have a menu that not only has something for everyone, but where everyone can eat everything.

Very well thought out and prepared. It's so nice to attend something I don't have to plan! :) Thank you.

We continue to get a good mix of first-timers and familiar faces. Of the 30 people at the lunch, 8 were new to the group. Sa-Bai Thong set up an entire section of the restaurant for us where we started out mingling with beverages and fried won ton strips to snack on. Then everyone sat down for a delicious meal, with a vegan buffet of food that seemed to be constantly refilled.
    •  The food was great and plentiful
    •  Great meetup meal. I liked the "mingling" time ahead of the meal and the buffet format. Everything was very good. Fried won-ton strips with a dipping sweet and sour sauce were available during the mingling time. It looks like that was an extra item the restaurant threw in. I'm not crazy about those in general, since they seem to be a vehicle for deep fryer grease and not much else. It was a nice touch, none the less, for the restaurant to provide these. Had a very nice time meeting, eating and visiting.
    •  The food was fantastic (my favor food is spring rolls). They let us take left overs home. Drinks were part of the meal. FANTASTIC!!
    •  My first time, and I met nice people over good food. Food-wise, I liked everything but dessert; not into sweets much. I did find it a bit strange that the spring rolls, soup and both entrees all contained tofu. I'm sure they'd never put a multi-course non-veg menu together for a group with four chicken or four beef dishes, but hey ...
    •  It was my first time at a Madison vegetarian meet-up. I met some great people -- everyone was so friendly and pleasant. I met a couple of people whom I had a lot in common, and hope to see them again at a future event and also get to know some of the other members. As far as the food goes, it was very good, and I was full after eating -- I just thought that they might have put out a bit more dishes to choose from for the price we paid. The service was very good and the wait staff polite. All in all, it was a good experince and I hope to make it to some future vegie functions again soon. Joanie Baker
