This event is now full. If you sign up for the waiting list, email your phone number to me so I can contact you quickly if there's a last-minute cancellation. If you are interested in this event it's important to add your name to the waiting list even if you think it's unlikely you'll be contacted to go: 1) There could be last-minute cancellations and the people ahead of you on the list might not be able to go -- or I might not be able to get ahold of them. 2) It gives me a better indication of the interest level, which can help in planning future events. Bunky's Cafe is a vegetarian- and vegan-friendly restaurant with a menu that has a mixture of Italian and Mediterranean food. The dinner we had there last year was delicious and got excellent reviews from everyone who attended. Our dinner this year will be a Moroccan feast... Appetizers Homemade hummus with freshly-baked pita. Taktuka -- roasted green and red peppers with fresh herbs (served cold) Soup Lentil Soup Salad Moroccan Beet Salad with cilantro, cumin, and Moroccan spices. Main Course Veggie Couscous with farm-fresh vegetables including several types of squash, turnips, carrots, and onions. Dessert Moroccan fruit and authentic Moroccan mint tea. Beverages Turkish Iced Tea and Water. (Wine, beer, and other cocktails will be available for an extra charge.) The $15.00 fee includes everything mentioned above (except the alcoholic beverages), as well as tax and the tip. That breaks down to about $11.00 for the meal, plus tax, tip, and a little to cover the meetup.com and PayPal fees. Bunky's Cafe is giving our group a great deal. A meal like this would normally cost over $35! Payment Information: Pre-payment is required. If you would prefer to send a check instead of using PayPal (payment link above), contact me and I will give you my mailing address. The $15 fee includes a little extra to cover PayPal's fees (74 cents) as well as Meetup.com's $144 annual cost. Payment Deadline: Please pay on or before Saturday, October 31st. At the event, I will have a list of people who RSVPed and a list of people who paid. You must be on both lists to attend. If you have any questions or concerns about this feel free to let me know. Refund Policy: If you cancel before the payment deadline you will get a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations after the deadline or if you do not show up to the event. If something comes up at the last minute you are welcome to find someone else to attend instead of you. The reason refunds are not given after the deadline is that I agree to pay Bunky's Cafe for everyone who has paid me at that point. What about kids? Kids are welcome, but pay full price: Exception: Those 12 and under can attend for $11.00. And very young children who will only nibble off of your plate can attend at no charge. Please include all kids as guests when you RSVP and write their ages in the notes area of your RSVP. Can I RSVP now, but wait to pay? Yes. As long as I receive your payment by the deadline there shouldn't be a problem. And it will actually help others gauge the interest in this event if you sign up right away. However, if the event fills up, I will remove the RSVPs of people who haven't paid so that others who are interested can attend. (RSVPs can be changed until the payment deadline, if necessary.) Why can't I RSVP as a 'maybe'? Meetup.com counts 'maybe' RSVPs as part of the total attending. Since this event has a maximum number, 'maybe' RSVPs could prevent someone else from going. I've made repeated suggestions for them to change the way they count 'maybe' RSVPs, but until they update their software, I won't include the 'maybe' option for events that have a maximum number. This is a vegetarian group. Why is the dinner vegan? As a vegetarian, it's not unusual for me to be at an event where there is little (or nothing) for me to eat. This group has members who are vegetarian, vegan, and just interested (among others). Everyone is welcome. I think it's important for our events to have a menu that not only has something for everyone, but where everyone can eat everything.

Great weather forecast for the day. The event will go on as planned. Join us for an afternoon of pumpkin picking, hayrides, and maybe even some on-the-spot pumpkin carving. We'll be at Anderson's Pleasant Patch Pumpkins in Cottage Grove, just a few minutes from Madison. There is also a mile-long hiking trail and a small corn maze. There's no charge to attend. You just pay for what you get. They say most pick-your-own pumpkins cost between $3 and $5, but the really big ones are more. The hay ride and corn maze are free for kids and adults. They also have a variety of fall decorations such as gourds, squash, corn stalks, straw bales, ornamental corn, and dried flowers. Website for Anderson's Pleasant Patch Pumpkins Rain Date In case of rain, the backup date will be Sunday, October 18th at 2:00 pm. Check this page Saturday morning, October 17th, by 10:00 am for the final decision.

Those who won't eat much (you be the judge) can attend at half price ($7.00). Very young children who will only nibble off of your plate can attend at no charge. Great weather forecast for the day. The event will go on as planned. Join us for an afternoon of apple picking at Door Creek Orchard, just a few minutes from Madison. This is the place we went to last year and they treated us great. There is no fee to attend -- you'll just pay for what you get. View pictures from last year's trip there. http://photos2.meetu pstatic.com/photos/e vent/8/0/1/8/event_6 092792.jpeg Pick-Your-Own Apples The cost for pick-your-own apples is 90 cents/pound. And if you pick them off the ground, it's just 60 cents/pound. Bags cost a quarter, but you can bring your own and save a little money. They expect to have the following varieties available for pick-your-own: * Cortland * Earliblaze * Gala * Greening * Jonafree * Jonamac * McIntosh Pre-Picked Apples There are also dozens of other apple varieties that have been pre-picked. Most of those can be purchased for $1.50/pound -- a few cost more. Pick-Your-Own Grapes & Raspberries Grapes are $1.50/pound and raspberries are $4.50/pound. Carpooling Parking could be an issue with the size of our group (and the time we're going). So, if you're willing to carpool add a note about that in your RSVP and the part of town where you live. Picnic Lunch If you'd like to bring along a picnic lunch there are nice areas on the farm to relax and enjoy it. Rain Date In case of rain, the backup date will be Sunday, September 20th at 2:00 pm. Check this page Saturday morning, September 19th, by 10:00 am for the final decision. Note: sheep are raised on part of the farm.

Jennie Capellaro has a wholesale soup business and has done catering for many years. You can find her soups at Mother Fool's (vegan) and The Alchemy (vegan & vegetarian). Additionally, she is in the process of opening a vegetarian and vegan restaurant called the Green Owl on the east side of Madison. The restaurant's menu is not yet finalized, but our meal is a nice preview of the kind of food you might find there. This event has a limit of 50 people, which might sound like a lot, but I think it will fill up quickly. Our previous dinner had 60 people attend. So, if you're interested make sure you don't wait too long to sign up. (Note: The Kennedy Manor is just the location. It is normally closed on Mondays. The food will be from Jennie Capellaro.) Our entire meal will be vegan and will incorporate a lot of locally grown produce from the farmer's market. That means there might be some slight changes to the menu depending on what produce looks great that weekend. Appetizers "Crab" cakes with chipotle remoulade First Course (Salad) Tossed mixed greens with roasted beets, caramelized pecans, and balsamic vinaigrette Second Course (Soup) Creamy zucchini and spinach soup with garlic croutons and chives Main Course Vegan schnitzel cutlet topped with creamy mushroom sauce Sautéed green beans and red peppers Dessert Key lime tarts with vegan whipped cream and fresh fruit Beverages Rosewater lemonade Wine, beer, and limited cocktails will be available for an extra charge We'll start out mingling with drinks and appetizers for the first 15 minutes or so. This event is now full. If you sign up for the waiting list, email your phone number to me so I can contact you quickly if there's a last-minute cancellation. Jen Gaber, formerly the chef at Monty's Blue Plate Diner, recently launched Nutshell Catering. She is going to prepare a completely vegan meal for us using many locally-grown, organic ingredients. This event has a limit of 60 people, which might sound like a lot, but I think it could fill up -- we now have over 300 people in the group (plus family members). So, if you're interested make sure you don't wait too long to sign up. (Note: The Daisy Cafe is just the location. It is normally closed in the evenings. The food will be from Nutshell Catering.) 1st Course Crisp veggies and onion dip Edamame hummus Fruit skewers with Jen's vegan yogurt dip 2nd Course Quinoa black bean salad Green salad with apples and sweet red wine vinaigrette Focaccia with tomato, spinach, and pine nuts 3rd Course Make-your-own vegan taco buffet with two hot fillings and an array of chilled relishes, salsas, and herbs 4th Course A vegan blondie and brownie tower with vegan ice cream from the Chocolate Shoppe! Beverages Fruit punch, hot tea selection, and ice water. For the lunch at Sa-Bai Thong, we started out mingling with drinks for the first 15 minutes. This time we'll start out the same way, but we're going even further. After each course, we'll switch tables so everyone has a chance to get to know even more people in the group. That breaks down to about $11.00 for the meal, plus tax, tip, and a little to cover the meetup.com and PayPal fees. Nutshell Catering is giving our group a great deal. A meal like this would normally cost about twice as much! Payment Deadline: Please pay on or before Thursday, July 9th. If something comes up at the last minute you are welcome to find someone else to attend instead of you. The reason refunds are not given after the deadline is that I agree to pay Nutshell Catering for everyone who has paid me at that point. What about kids? Kids are welcome, but pay full price. Since last year's camping trip went so well we're going to do it again this summer. I reserved a group campsite at Buckhorn State Park in Necedah (about 30 miles north of Wisconsin Dells). It's a beautiful area with scenic trails for hiking, miles of paved roadways for bike riding, beaches for swimming and playing in the sand, and lots of open water on Castle Rock Lake for boating (canoes can be rented at the park: $20/2 hours, $24/4 hours...). Additionally, Trina has volunteered to be in charge of preparing the meals again -- this alone is worth rescheduling other plans so you can go... The specifics for the meals are subject to change, but everything will be vegan. Expect something like: Saturday Lunch: Make-your-own tacos, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and hummus with bread. Saturday Dinner: Veggie burgers, kabobs, hobo dinners, sides, and s'mores for dessert. Sunday Breakfast: Muffins and fruit. Possibly pancakes with sides on a grill. Beverages will also be provided with the meals and there might even be some chips and other food for between-meal snacks. Although our site isn't guaranteed to be ready for us until 3:00 pm on Saturday, plan on arriving by noon for lunch -- we can eat at picnic tables that aren't on the campsite. I'll coordinate with everyone before the trip. Links: Campground Info/Directions Campground Map (Ours is site B2) Buckhorn State Park on State Map What is included in the event fee? Campsite fee. Food (see above). What is not included in the event fee? State Park sticker (see note below). Camping equipment (tent, sleeping bag, firewood, etc.). Additional snacks and drinks. What about kids? Kids of all ages are welcome to attend at no charge. They do count toward the 40 people allowed on the campsite so make sure to note any kids in your party when you RSVP. Payment Information: Pre-payment is required. If you would prefer to send a check instead of using PayPal (payment link above), contact me and I will give you my mailing address. The $17 fee includes a little extra to cover PayPal's fees (79 cents) as well as Meetup.com's $144 annual cost. Payment Deadline: Please pay on or before Wednesday, June 24th. Refund Policy: If you cancel on or before the payment deadline you will get a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations after the deadline or if you do not show up to the event. If something comes up at the last minute you are welcome to find someone else to attend instead of you. The reason refunds are not given after the deadline is that we will be purchasing food based on the number of people who have committed to going as of the deadline. (RSVPs can be changed until the payment deadline, if necessary.) Can I bring my pet? Yes. Dogs and other pets are allowed in camping areas, on roads and in other areas of the park not developed for public use. Complete rules about pets are on the DNR's website. Please read all the rules about pets before deciding to bring a pet along. What if it rains? We'll be there rain or shine. How long can I be at the park? We have the campsite reserved from 3:00 pm on Saturday until 3:00 pm on Sunday. The park is closed to non-campers between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am. So, if you want to maximize your time at the park you can arrive at 6:00 am on Saturday and leave at 11:00 pm on Sunday. Do I need to buy a State Park sticker for my car? Will anyone be carpooling? All cars that enter the park must have a State Park sticker. The cost is $14.00 for the weekend or $25.00 per year. You can buy the sticker when you arrive at the park. Before the event I will contact all campers to coordinate the driving. State Park Sticker Information
