Vegan Dinner at Mabuhay Philippine Cuisine 1

Mabuhay Philippine Cuisine is a newer restaurant that was recommended by one of our group members (Thanks, Ann!). They are interested in starting a regular vegan night for their buffet and are giving our group a preview of what to expect.

Note: To accommodate more people, there is a duplicate dinner on Tuesday, July 9.

Our completely vegan dinner will be served buffet style. There will be at least four gluten-free items (the recipes are still being tweaked).

RSVP/Payment Info:
Pre-payment is required to RSVP (see exception below). automates this process when you pay via PayPal. If you want to pay by check, contact me and I will give you my mailing address. I will manually update your RSVP as soon as I receive your request, but since our events fill up quickly, out of fairness to other group members I will remove the RSVP if the check is not received within four business days.

Special honor system exception: If you have been in the group for a while and have a history of attending and paying for events without any problems you can contact me about paying me at the event. This accommodation is provided as a convenience -- you are still responsible for paying even if you do not attend

Important Note: I will manually update the RSVPs of people who pay by check or use the honor system, but it's possible the event will fill up before I check my email. If that happens I will add you to the waiting list.

Fee Disclosure:
The $14.00 fee includes a little extra to cover PayPal's fees (71 cents) as well as's $144 annual cost.

Refund Policy:
If you cancel on or before Saturday, July 6th you will get a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations after the deadline or if you do not show up to the event. If something comes up at the last minute you are welcome to find someone else to attend instead of you. The reason refunds are not given after the deadline is that I agree to pay for everyone who has paid me at that point.

What about kids?
Kids 8 and under pay $7. Young children who will only nibble off of your plate can attend at no charge. Please note in the comment section of your RSVP if kids will be joining you.

This is a vegetarian group. Why is the dinner vegan?
This group has members who are vegetarian, vegan, and just interested. Everyone is welcome. I think it's important for our events to have a menu that not only has something for everyone, but where everyone can eat everything.

I thought it was really good with a huge spread of the casual spring roll to the grey eggplant, to the stranger jackfruit to whatever that bright purple rolled up thing was. It seemed traditional and you cannot go wrong with broccoli.

Nice to meet new people. It would be nice to have an ice-breaker of some sort, like a question at each table to discuss or something. Otherwise, coming alone is a little awkward.

Menu looked like it would be great. Was that a good example of traditional phillppine cooking? Did you find any one dish a specialty? Enjoyed bringing a friend and talking with Melissa and Jim.

I think the food was interesting but begged for more spices. Maybe they were afraid to over-spice it for some people? I do not know what Philippine cooking is like, though.
