Vegan Pizza Party at Roman Candle Pizzeria (Day 1)

Roman Candle Pizzeria (map)

Selected By: Dave

Join us for a vegan pizza party with lots of vegan pizza, soup, salad, appetizers, and soda.

Roman Candle Pizzeria will be making delicious vegan pizzas for us with a variety of toppings, including: artichoke hearts, fresh basil, olives, broccoli, caramelized onions, green and red peppers, jalapeņo peppers, fresh mushrooms, pine nuts, pineapple, roma slices, and zucchini.

Additionally, many of the pizzas will feature the new Daiya vegan cheese, which tastes, shreds, melts, and stretches more like dairy-based cheese than anything else I've tried.

Note: Wine and beer are not included, but will be available for purchase.

The $13.00 fee includes the tax, tip, and everything mentioned above (except the wine and beer). That breaks down to about $9.00 for the meal, plus tax, tip, and a little to cover the meetup.com and PayPal fees. Roman Candle Pizzeria is giving our group an incredible deal. A meal like this would normally cost twice that amount!

RSVP/Payment Info:
Pre-payment is required to RSVP (see exception below). Meetup.com automates this process when you pay via PayPal. If you want to pay by check, contact me and I will give you my mailing address. I will manually update your RSVP as soon as I receive your request, but since our events fill up quickly, out of fairness to other group members I will remove the RSVP if the check is not received within four business days.

Special honor system exception: If you have been in the group for a while and have a history of attending and paying for events without any problems you can contact me about paying me at the event. This accommodation is provided as a convenience -- you are still responsible for paying even if you do not attend.

Important Note: I will manually update the RSVPs of people who pay by check or use the honor system, but it's possible the event will fill up before I check my email. If that happens I will add you to the waiting list.

Fee Disclosure:
The $13.00 fee includes a little extra to cover PayPal's fees (68 cents) as well as Meetup.com's $144 annual cost.

Refund Policy:
If you cancel on or before Thursday, May 6th you will get a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations after the deadline or if you do not show up to the event. If something comes up at the last minute you are welcome to find someone else to attend instead of you. The reason refunds are not given after the deadline is that I agree to pay for everyone who has paid me at that point.

What about kids?
Kids are welcome, but pay full price. However, young children who will only nibble off of your plate can attend at no charge. Please note in the comment section of your RSVP if kids will be joining you.

Why can't I RSVP as a 'maybe'?
Meetup.com counts 'maybe' RSVPs as part of the total attending. Since this event has a maximum number, 'maybe' RSVPs could prevent someone else from going. I've made repeated suggestions for them to change the way they count 'maybe' RSVPs, but until they update their software, I won't include the 'maybe' option for events that have a maximum number.

This is a vegetarian group. Why is the dinner vegan?
This group has members who are vegetarian, vegan, and just interested. Everyone is welcome. I think it's important for our events to have a menu that not only has something for everyone, but where everyone can eat everything.

Roman Candle did a terrific job. The food was great... fresh salad, breadsticks, bruschetta, soup, and of course pizza. And the staff was extremely attentive. It was nice to see a lot of the regulars as well as some new faces. We also had a visit from an Isthmus reporter for an upcoming article about the group.

The Vegan Destroyer was super awesome, with or without the Daiya cheese!

This was my first event, and I'd definitely be back for more! The food was great, and I especially liked the Vegan Destroyer pizza!

The venue was great - The salad dressing was fantastic. I am not a fan of thin crust pizza but the toppings (really the most important aspect, right?) were absolutely delicious. I was surprised how well the "cheese" melted and added a wonderful texture.

The food was good (LOVED the soup and salad!), the atmosphere was cozy with enough room for all of us, the service was great and fast, parking was convenient, everyone was really jovial, and we met several cool people. This was a lot of fun!

I really like the family style format with big tables and communal dishes. What a nice way to share your thoughts on the meal with friends and new acquaintances. Perfect for a special occasion like our meetups. As for the food, I am a big fan of Roman Candle's salads. They are consistent in quality and quantity. I never had their soups before and thought tonight's selection was perfect for a cool spring day. My opinion of the pizzas was that they were delicious without the Daiya. I will probably go cheese-less, before trying tonight's non-dairy cheese again.

Good pizza! I especially liked the vegan destroyer -- very delicious toppings. The animal lovers pizza was less loaded with toppings, but it, too, was delicious, and it had a nice sauce. I liked the appetizers, especially the bruschetta. The wait staff took good care of us.

I enjoyed my first event. I'm kinda shy, so I didn't talk to too many people. Thought the food was great, especially the soup. FYI - Whole Foods carries Daiya shreds in cheddar and mozzarella.
