Vegan Dinner at Liliana's

This event is now closed. If you would like to join the waiting list send me an mail. Please include your phone number so I can contact you quickly if there's a cancellation. Signing up for the waiting list does not commit you to going if space becomes available. There is no fee involved in joining the waiting list.

If you are interested in this event it's important to add your name to the waiting list even if you think it's unlikely you'll be contacted to go:
1) There could be last-minute cancellations and the people ahead of you on the list might not be able to go -- or I might not be able to get ahold of them.
2) It gives me a better indication of the interest level, which can help in planning future events.

Liliana's is a New Orleans style fine-dining restaurant featuring fresh, local, and organic ingredients. Our menu will be completely vegan and includes the following:

Appetizers:
We'll start out mingling with drinks and appetizers (using ingredients fresh from the farmers' market). Only water is included the price, but Liliana's has a full bar for those who would like other beverages.

Salad:
Organic green salad with grilled sweet corn, cilantro, black beans, and peppers with caramelized onion creole vinaigrette.

Entrees (served family style):
Blackened house made seitan with sweet potato puree and grilled summer squashes.

Grilled mushroom polenta with char roasted vegetables and chimmi churri.

Dessert:
Vegan bananas foster with house made vegan banana ice cream.

Outdoor seating will be available if weather permits.

The $18.00 fee includes the tax, tip, and everything mentioned above (except the noted beverages). That breaks down to about $13.50 for the meal, plus tax, tip, and a little to cover the meetup.com and PayPal fees. Liliana's is giving our group a great deal. A meal like this would normally cost over $65, with tax and tip.

RSVP/Payment Info:
Pre-payment is required to RSVP (see exception below). Meetup.com automates this process when you pay via PayPal. If you want to pay by check, contact me and I will give you my mailing address. I will manually update your RSVP as soon as I receive your request, but since our events fill up quickly, out of fairness to other group members I will remove the RSVP if the check is not received within four business days.

Special honor system exception: If you have been in the group for a while and have a history of attending and paying for events without any problems you can contact me about paying me at the event. This accommodation is provided as a convenience -- you are still responsible for paying even if you do not attend.

Important Note: I will manually update the RSVPs of people who pay by check or use the honor system, but it's possible the event will fill up before I check my email. If that happens I will add you to the waiting list.

Fee Disclosure:
The $18.00 fee includes a little extra to cover PayPal's fees (82 cents) as well as Meetup.com's $144 annual cost.

Refund Policy:
If you cancel on or before Thursday, August 4th you will get a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations after the deadline or if you do not show up to the event. If something comes up at the last minute you are welcome to find someone else to attend instead of you. The reason refunds are not given after the deadline is that I agree to pay for everyone who has paid me at that point.

What about kids?
Kids are welcome, but pay full price. However, young children who will only nibble off of your plate can attend at no charge. Please note in the comment section of your RSVP if kids will be joining you.

This is a vegetarian group. Why is the dinner vegan?
This group has members who are vegetarian, vegan, and just interested. Everyone is welcome. I think it's important for our events to have a menu that not only has something for everyone, but where everyone can eat everything.

The best dinner so far -- flavor, presentation, variety, etc. . . . all perfect!!

Slow service, but WOW was it worth waiting for. i think we overwhelmed the kitchen with the size of our group all eating at the same time.

The dinner was delicious, and I felt so treated. Plates with plentiful, well-presented food kept coming and coming. As usual, I had wonderful and interesting dinner companions. My only complaint is the length of time between courses, especially the dessert course.

The food was excellent; it was the best vegan food I've eaten in Fitchburg. But the portions were too small, and I left the restaurant hungry.

The food was excellent and beautifully presented. However, 3 hours is a little long for a dinner for me. I almost fell asleep before the dessert.

It was good food but slow service. Starting on time would have helped. I don't see how this meal would normally cost $65.

Food was great. Liliana's as seems usual with other restaurants, was understaffed to deal with our group effectively. Every table was finished eating the first course while we were still waiting. We had to tell the staff/owner we weren't being served. Just because we buy as a group doesn't mean we deserve less than good service!

I thought the food was great. It came out a little slow, but that was ok because it gave us time to meet and chat with new people. Overall, our first Madison Area Vegetarian Meetup group was a success. We are looking forward to signing up for more! Thanks to Dave to setting it up!

Great meetup. Food took a little longer than expected but was worth the wait.

Excellent food, great company. The owner was super friendly and talked to our group, which was awesome. His daughter was fun too! Food was a bit slow coming out, but we had a huge group.

I think the meet-ups are nicer when they're a bit smaller. However, I still had a great time and met some great people.

If I could give it six stars I would! Wonderful venue, well-timed, delicious food, charming and accommodating staff...

Yes, yes, yes--one of the best Neat-ups we've had. Great food, generous portions, wonderful host, great table talk, nice room, good service. The only improvement would be if they could have kept it from going over 2 hours. But the quality of everything else made the long duration tolerable.

The food was delicious, and it was clear that the restaurant pulled out all the stops to create a special dining experience for us. The only problem was the long wait between courses. This wasn't a service issue, since everything was delivered hot. A few people at our table had to leave before the second entree was served because they hadn't planned on such a leisurely dinner. And everyone was getting edgy and wondering whether to stay or go by the time dessert arrived. I think our large numbers put the vegetarian and vegan community top of mind with Chef Heide, and his commitment to supporting local growers is admirable. I'd like to support Lilliana's by visiting again sometime.

It was a very leisurely evening, 3 hours was a bit more of an investment than I was prepared for, but the company was good and the food was worth the wait.

The salad was excellent--neither over- nor underdressed, which is very hard to do, plus excellent flavor. The seitan course was a very pleasant surprise--never has seitan been so tasty or such fine texture. The dessert was a disappointment--the banana 'ice cream' wasn't. Redoing a classic dessert with different materials is just a set-up for disappointment, and people were already restless and irritable from the wait.

Very nice atmosphere, and good conversation, it would have been nice if there would have been an opportunity for more mingling.

The food was just delicious, the surroundings were relaxing, the company was good, the service was good, Owner/Chef was friendly & funny, and his little girl "the owner of the restaurant" was an added treat. Definitely going back for more. Thanks, Dave, for setting up such a great dinner again. :)
