Join us for our fifth annual veggie group summer camping trip. I reserved a large campsite at Yellowstone State Park in Blanchardville (about 45 miles southwest of Madison). This is the same site as last two trips because of the lack of mosquitos -- plus, it's a very nice place.
It's a beautiful area where we can hike, bike, swim, and boat (as well as relax). A variety of boats are available to rent: paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, and rowboats. The rental fees range from $7 to $12 per hour, with big discounts for larger blocks of time.
Watch the video from a previous trip.
Additionally, Trina has volunteered to be in charge of preparing the meals again. This alone is worth changing other plans so you can go -- just ask anyone who went on any of the previous camping trips..
Gluten-free options will be available upon request. Let me know beforehand if you would like gluten-free meals. Here's the plan for food (all vegan):
Saturday Lunch (Italian theme):
- Lentil walnut balls in tomato sauce
- Italian "sausage" on buns
- Pesto pasta
- "Cream" sauce pasta or mac & "cheese"
- Hobo dinners (potato, mushroom, carrots, onions, olive oil, spices)
- Veggie burgers
- Desserts (Smores)
- Tofu scramble
- Bean "sausages"
There will also be a good supply of snacks and beverages (juice, water, soda).
Special thanks to...
* FakeMeats.com sells a variety of jerky, meat substitutes, snacks, seasonings, sauces, and condiments (all vegetarian and vegan). Specials and announcements at: Facebook.com/FakeMeats. They are donating an assortment of vegan jerky for everyone on this camping trip -- plus some other vegan items for our meals!
* Upton's Naturals makes and sells a variety of vegan seitan and wraps/sandwiches (available locally at Whole Foods). They are donating a selection of their wraps/sandwiches for everyone on this camping trip.
* Chicago Vegan Foods, makers of Teese vegan cheese, Temptation vegan ice cream, and Dandies vegan marshmallows, is donating a case of Dandies for the camping trip!
Although our site isn't guaranteed to be ready for us until 3:00 pm on Saturday, plan on arriving by noon for lunch -- we can eat at picnic tables that aren't on the campsite. I'll coordinate with everyone before the trip.

What is included in the event fee?
Food (see above).
What is not included in the event fee?
State Park sticker (see note below).
Camping equipment (tent, sleeping bag, firewood, etc.).
Additional snacks and drinks.
Camping equipment can be rented from REI, 7483 West Towne Way, Madison, 833-6680.
What about kids?
Kids of all ages are welcome. Kids 10 and up pay full price. Kids 5-9 pay $14. Kids 4 and under pay $7. Please make a note in the comments of your RSVP of all kids in your party and their ages.
Pre-payment is required to RSVP (see exception below). Meetup.com automates this process when you pay via PayPal. If you want to pay by check, contact me and I will give you my mailing address. I will manually update your RSVP as soon as I receive your request, but since our events fill up quickly, out of fairness to other group members I will remove the RSVP if the check is not received within four business days.
Special honor system exception: If you have been in the group for a while and have a history of attending and paying for events without any problems you can contact me about paying me at the event. This accommodation is provided as a convenience -- you are still responsible for paying even if you do not attend
Important Note: I will manually update the RSVPs of people who pay by check or use the honor system, but it's possible the event will fill up before I check my email. If that happens I will add you to the waiting list.
The fee includes a little extra to cover PayPal's fees (91 cents) as well as Meetup.com's $144 annual cost.
If you cancel on or before Saturday, June 16th you will get a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations after the deadline or if you do not show up to the event. If something comes up at the last minute you are welcome to find someone else to attend instead of you. The reason refunds are not given after the deadline is that we are purchasing food based on the number of people who have paid me at that point.
Can I bring my pet?
Yes. Dogs and other pets are allowed. Pets must be on a leash no longer than 8 ft and under control at all times. Pets are not allowed in buildings, picnic areas or on beaches or nature trails. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Pets may not be left unattended at any time. Complete rules about pets are on the DNR's website. Please read all the rules about pets before deciding to bring a pet along.
What if it rains?
We'll be there rain or shine.
How long can I be at the park?
We have the campsite reserved from 3:00 pm on Saturday until 3:00 pm on Sunday. The park is closed to non-campers between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am. So, if you want to maximize your time at the park you can arrive at 6:00 am on Saturday and leave at 11:00 pm on Sunday.
Do I need to buy a state park sticker for my car? Will anyone be carpooling?
All cars that enter the park must have a state park sticker, which covers all Wisconsin state parks. The cost is $7.00 for a day pass or $25.00 per year. I was told a single day pass is all that's necessary for camping overnight. You can buy the sticker when you arrive at the park. Before the event I will contact all campers to coordinate the driving.
