VSDC Book Club discusses Ray Bradbury's "Dandelion Wine"

Please join the Vegetarian Society of DC Book Club discussion of Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine.

To participate just read at least half the book -- and RSVP at least two days before the meeting.

Ray Bradbury called this semi-autobiographical novel, published in 1957, his most deeply personal work, adding: “This is the story of me as a young boy and the magic of an unforgettable summer which still holds a mystical power over me.” Bradbury, who died in 2012, was assisting with the development of a film based on the book. Production on the film could begin this summer.

We will meet at a vegetarian restaurant (in MD, DC, or VA). Everyone will order on their own and pay directly to the restaurant. People who RSVP "yes" will get the location information. For more details contact Beth through meet up. For more information about the book club (including everything we have read over 20 years!) visit http://www.vsdc.org/book.html

Be considerate...if your plans change, PLEASE update your RSVP!

I had a good time tonight. It was interesting to see how others felt about the book. Great job organizing, Beth! :-)

OK, now I am _NOT_ coming. I had an accident IN my car. No, not a collision, but the spilling of a 7-Eleven Double Gulp in the interior. It's a shame, as this book rather affected me in a way I think the rest of you would find surprising.

On the bright side, my Jackhuahua, Thor, will get the chance to Survey His Domain in the front yard on this beautiful spring evening. And I think Pancho may want a ride!!

Glad you're feeling better, sorry about the mishap, and hope to see you next time!

Souper Girl is a nice restaurant, but Dandelion Wine is not a nice book. Sorry that I won't be joining you.

Rodney, I think you have a cool picture. Do you really look like that?

I am sorry to bow out of this discussion but a contract came up. And I will not be able to show off my autographed copy of Dandelion Wine, either.

That's unfortunate, you know the book well and would have provided good insight.

I can't get halfway into it. I'm afraid the book isn't for me.

I was required to read this book during the summer after 6th grade. I do not recall it being very good.

Thanks Susie. Our books are chosen by vote. I am looking forward to reading this one, too!

Consequent to my earlier statement, I will not be reading. However, so many of you like the author that I very much hope you will like the book. How many of you drive personal cars to get to work?

one of my all time favorite books!
