VSDC Vegan Brunch Bunch at Todd Gray's Muse Cafe at the Corcoran

VSDC's vegan brunch bunch will be enjoying a scrumptious gourmet vegan buffet at Todd Gray’s Muse Café in the Corcoran Gallery of Art on Sunday, March 24th. Come hungry and be ready to chat with like-minded folks!!  And then after the brunch, take advantage of the Corcoran Museum - with the purchase of the brunch, you will get $5 off of the $10 admission to the museum.

**We have changed the start time to 10:30 because the Muse is opening early just for VSDC! We will have the place to ourselves before it opens to the public.

Please be on time because our reservation is from 10:30 to 11:30. The vegan brunch is very popular and we have to be considerate of the restaurant by making our seats available as soon as we're finished eating. Only those who have RSVP'd YES will be seated with our group. If you are not on our RSVP list, you will have to go through the regular channels with the restaurant, which is booked full on Sunday.

Cost:  $25.00 a person paid directly to the Muse Cafe. Remember to include tax and tip (suggested rule of thumb 30%).

Metro Accessible: Farragut West Metro Station (Orange & Blue Lines)

Background info about the talented chef.

Chef Todd Gray is is a five-time James Beard Award nominee.  He graduated with honors from the Culinary Institute of America and has cooked with some of the nation’s top chefs at premier restaurants, including The French Laundry, Daniel and Roberto Donna’s Galileo. He and his wife Ellen Kassoff Gray co-own and operate Equinox, Muse at the Corcoran Galley of Art and Hamill Gray Catering.

RSVP: Since reservations are based on the number of RSVPs, please do not RSVP “YES” unless you are sure you will attend. If the RSVPs are full, please sign up for the waiting list if you are interested in attending. Those on the waiting list will be automatically moved up if someone changes their RSVP. Hope to see you there!

Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather, this event may be cancelled so please check this meetup event page beforehand.

Are you a VSDC member? Are you membership dues current?  If you are not a VSDC member, you can sign up at the event. Road closures/traffic warning: The Scope It Out 5K run is taking place Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m., starting at Freedom Plaza (14th and Pennsylvania Ave.) and headed down Penn Ave. towards the Capitol. The Corcoran is on the other side of the White House on 17th Street, and while the streets around the Corcoran are not going to be shut down, some surrounding streets to the East will be closed. So you might encounter traffic if you drive. To avoid driving, there are several Metro stations near the Corcoran, including Farragut West (Orange/Blue lines) and Farragut North (Red line). http://www.scopeitout5k.com/events/118/scope-it-out-5k-run-walk-washington-dc

Sorry. Something came up and can't make it this time. Please give my seat to next on the list. Thanks.

Hi Hiroko, thanks for changing your RSVP and letting us know!

I will attend, but already have conflicting reservations with friends, so i am freeing up my VSDC spots

I had several RSVP reservations for this meetup and I released my reservations. I see that there is currently less than 25 RSVPs for the meetup but there is still a waiting list. I hope you can attend, ReShon

      March 23, 2013

    • Susie

Hi ReShon, Rodney changed his RSVP for this event from "YES" to "NO," which then created space for the next people on the waiting list to attend. When people change their RSVP to "NO," the next person on the waiting list is moved up to attend. Please check your email frequently leading up to the visit, as people sometimes change their RSVP at the last minute and those on the waiting list could receive notice at the last minute that they can attend. Thanks, Susie

Is anyone interested in visiting the museum afterwards? I'm thinking since we are already there we might as well check it out.

    March 22, 2013

    • Susie

Hi Margaret, excellent idea! With the purchase of the brunch, you will get $5 off the $10 admission to the Corcoran museum.

If you are no longer able to join us, please change your RSVP on this Meetup page, and then the next person in line on the waiting list will be automatically moved up and notified that they can come. Thanks everyone!

I wanted to give my RSVP to someone. My plus one was my infant son. I've decided to attend the NATURAL HEALTH EXPO that day. Stop by after?

Thanks for the explanation, Susie. Just to clarify, the restaurant opens at 11:00 to the public. They are allowing us in at 10:30, and we have to exit at 11:30.

Susie: you, Diane, and Cleveland do a great job setting up these meals. I truly appreciate the time and work you guys put into it. I always have a great time at these events. Thank you!

Thanks so much Diane, on behalf of all VSDC volunteers!

PART I: Hi Allison, thanks for your comment and interest in this delicious brunch. When we originally scheduled this, we were not aware that Muse was sold out and booked solid on this day. The owners of Muse are great supporters of the vegan community in DC, and we wanted to work with them to ensure that they could seat the greatest number of people possible. The restaurant seating area is limited and we will be taking up half of their space. They are graciously opening their doors early for us at 10:30. This will enable VSDC members to go up to the buffet with no line and fill up our plates and bellies before the public is allowed in. This is why we stress that people should be on time for this event. Also, we will not be waiting for the bill at the end of the meal, which is often what takes up a lot of time at the restaurant visits. Everyone will pay at the front on their way out. I hope this alleviates some of your concerns.

PART II: We do apologize for the confusion and for changing the Meetup details after it was posted. I hope you understand that we rarely do so, and that we felt it necessary in this situation. If you are not comfortable with the change in time, please accept our apologies and make sure you change your RSVP status if you elect not to attend. Hopefully we will offer this again in the future with the ability to have more time. Also, you can make reservations on your own at the restaurant in the future, which hosts the vegan brunch every fourth Sunday. Thank you for your understanding, on behalf of the VSDC Volunteers, Susie

Susie, the original time was 11 to 1, which gave us 2 hours. The new time not only changed for start time, but also cut the amount of time we have to only one hour. I've not been to this event before, but with this many people getting seated, served, (or if a buffet, standing in line and getting food), and eating, is one hour going to be enough time? Or are we going to end up with possibly an actual 35-40 min to wolf down breakfast? I've wanted to go to this event for a while now; seems a shame if we are having to rush through a glorious vegan breakfast that costs $30.

I have to work that morning. However, will attend (and be late) if the waiting list opens up.
