In honor of Earth Day, VSDC will be participating in the inaugural Takoma Park Earth Day Festival! It will take place on Sun, April 21st, from 10am - 4pm, amd will be centered on green solutions. The event will feature several speakers on environmental topics (including local political leaders such as MD Senator Jamie Raskin) and is sponsored by local businesses including SouperGirl, the Compost Crew, Takoma Park Farmer's Market, and others. VSDC is pleased to take part in this great opportunity to connect vegan lifestyles to environmental sustainability at the very first Takoma Park Earth Day street fair.
We are looking for 6-8 volunteers to help with booth setup and outreach - promoting the environmental (and other) benefits of veg*n diets, and selling books and memberships. The event will be rain or shine, and we are planning to have a canopy, but come prepared in any case. Please join us, and when you RSVP, answer the questions that ask for your first and last name, email address, and phone number (this info will be visible only to organizers), and indicate which shift(s) are most appealing:
9:30 am - 11:00 am Setup and early morning (will involve some lifting and carrying)
11:00 am - 1:00 pm Midday
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Early afternoon
3:00 pm - 4:45 pm Afternoon and booth takedown (will involve some lifting and carrying)
All the volunteer scheduling and coordination will take place by email, so be sure to answer all the questions and keep an eye on your inbox.
Grant Ave in downtown Takoma Park will be blocked off between Carroll and Hancock.
The location is a 12-15 min walk from Takoma Metro. More info at: http://www.tkpkearthday.org
Update from the event organizers 4/10/13:
Join us at the inaugural Takoma Park Earth Day event on Sunday, April 21 from 10 am to 4 pm. We’ll be among 35+ green businesses and organizations at the event’s Green Solutions Fair, where consumers can take advantage of “one-stop shop” to find out about the latest eco- friendly products, services, and initiatives.
The fair will feature great food and lots of family-friendly activities, too. Kids can “dig for dinosaurs” in our sandbox with Takoma Plays! from 10 am to Noon and sing along with Marsha Goodman-Wood from Noon to 2 pm.
Across the street, Purple Mountain Organics will host a native plant sale in the TPSS Co-Op parking lot.
The event will also feature a Speaker Series, hosted by Historic Takoma. Environmental experts will speak on topics ranging from wildlife conservation to local environmental initiatives to watershed protection. Visit the festival website for the full schedule: www.tkpkearthday.org.
Happy Earth Day and THANKS for volunteering!!
