HALLOWEEN PARTY (NOT SINGLES ONLY!)

  • October 31, 2009 · 8:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

SINCE THIS IS A PRIVATE HOME, YOU MUST PROVIDE THE HOSTESS WITH YOUR FULL NAME, PHONE NO., and NO. of ADULTS and CHILDREN IN ORDER TO SIGN UP. AFTER REPLYING YES on Meetup, PLEASE CONTACT ELIZABETH at [masked] or 703.534.0493. Thanks for your understanding!

NOW, by popular request: Non-singles, singles, and kids (if supervised) welcome!

Home of Elizabeth, N. Arlington, 4 blocks from E. Falls Church Metro; street parking available.

This party is always big. This year, the hostess wants to make more time and room for DANCING, VAMPING IN COSTUMES, BOBBING FOR APPLES, and maybe even a PIñATA (all activities optional). If the weather is cool, there will be a wood fire in the fireplace.

So, to minimize foods that require a lot of space and dishes, this will be a MOSTLY FINGER-FOOD potluck. Please bring READY-TO-EAT VEGAN FOOD (preferably healthy finger foods) or vegan beverage to share. [Vegan means no dairy, eggs, flesh, honey, gelatin, or any other animal products.] There will not be room for food preparation.

Note to the ALLERGIC: The house is home to several friendly CATS, who will be sequestered for the duration. A whole-house air-filtering system minimizes allergens. NOTE TO REGULARS: Please sign up even if you don't need directions. THERE IS A LIMIT OF 75 GUESTS. For a reply, RSVP by Thurs., Oct. 29, to Elizabeth at [masked] or 703.534.0493. This is a private home, so, for security purposes, the hostess will need your FULL NAME, PHONE NUMBER, and NO. of ADULTS and CHILDREN; calls/e-mails without this info. may not be returned. HAPPY GOBLINS!

i fully respect and agree with Elizabeth's view on RSVP deadlines. anyone wanting to attend an event must plan well in advance, not putting any extra burdens on the organizers. this meetup is run by volunteers and we need to whatever we can to make it as easy for them as possible. i think most meetup participants do this already.

i'm sorry to have missed this always-fun event this year. any costume hits / stand-outs??? immense THANKS to Elizabeth for hosting!!

Response to Mike's complaint: He provided contact info. on Fri., after the RSVP deadline. Most people respect the need for a cutoff point, realizing how much work goes into responding to 65+ people, organizing, placing announcements, decorating, setting up, providing refreshments, running party, cleaning up. Instructions clearly stated deadline for signing up and receiving directions was Thurs. Demanding a response to a late signup is inconsistent with the courteous spirit of this group.

Hi All. It is becoming tedious for me to pick out the photos and e-mail them to each and everyone of you individually. In addition to it, many of your e-mail systems are not accepting large files. A lot of e-mails bounced back to me. I need to figure out a different way to get the photos across to you. I am also pretty busy now and don't have much time. Please bear with the delay.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped set up, clean up, and everything in between, and to everyone who brought yummy foods/beverages, and to everyone who danced and laughed and chatted and gave each other rides, etc., and to everyone who came, whether in a fantastic disguise or not. It was really a pleasure to host and I enjoyed your company a lot. My house is still happy, even on this dark and rainy day.

Great hosting by Elizabeth. Best Halloween decoration I had ever seen. Even commercial designers can't compete with her. Nice group of people to spend the Halloween with.

The host required prospective attendees to provide our contact info before releasing her address then, despite both an email and phone message, still failed to respond with her address. I ended up driving around trying find the party, without success.

It was a lot of fun, I met new people, and I realize I should go to more potluck events.

In response to Lena's question: No, costumes are not required. Usually about half of the people are in costumes. Wear whatever clothes you like! Very informal.
