What better way than to spend a gorgeous Sunday afternoon sharing vegan culinary delights with great company in the park?!  Join VSDC and vegan meetup friends for a summer picnic in Rock Creek Park in NW DC.  The event is Rain or Shine and we are under a picnic shelter for cover.  The picnic starts at 12 pm and we have the space reserved until 4 pm so can go until then if enough people stay.  There is no charge to attend the picnic.

Items to bring to the picnic:

Vegan potluck dish to share

Beverage for yourself or one to share (no alcohol allowed on premises)

Ingredients list or recipe

A serving utensil for your dish

Help reduce waste and bring your reusable plate, cup and utensils.

Note: VSDC will provide basic supplies, drinking water, and ice.

Friendly reminder: vegans do not consume any animal products or byproducts (no meat, chicken/poultry, fish/sea animals, eggs, milk or dairy products, honey, etc).

Picnic Grove #1 is located off Tilden St NW, adjacent to Beach Drive in Rock Creek National Park. From Van Ness Metro station or Connecticut Ave bus, walk south on Connecticut Ave, turn left on Tilden St, walk East to Grove # 1. (Peirce Mill on the left.)

From downtown Washington, DC, take the Rock Creek & Potomac Parkway 2.5 miles north to the intersection with Beach Drive. Bear right on Beach Drive, passing through the tunnel and continuing on past the National Zoological Park. Stay on Beach Drive until you reach the first traffic light, Tilden Street. Turn left at the light, cross the bridge over Rock Creek, and Peirce Mill is immediately to the right.

An alternate route from downtown is to head North on Connecticut Avenue and, a few blocks after passing through Cleveland Park, turn right on Tilden Street. Peirce Mill is at the bottom of the hill on the left just before the bridge over Rock Creek.

Peirce Mill can also be reached on foot from the Cleveland Park Metrorail Station. Exit the Metro Station following the stairs to Connecticut Avenue-East, then walk along Connecticut Avenue about two blocks until you reach a small brown sign marking the "Melvin Hazen Trail." Take the half-mile trail downhill into Rock Creek Park. The trail ends at Picnic Grove 1 near the creek; turn left and the mill is one block ahead, just across Tilden Street.

Metro:  The nearest stop is on the Red Line at Van Ness / University of the District of Columbia (at Connecticut Avenue).

Does anyone know of a GPS address for this location? Thanks!

Try the address for Pierce Mill, 2401 Tilden St NW. The parking lot and picnic grove are on the other side of the street. If you're not familiar with driving through the park it's probably easiest to come from Connecticut and Tilden NW

I'm bringing 2 16" vegan pizzas, cut into squares for sampling. What time is setup? In other words, how early will y'all be there setting up? Tks!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
