VSDC Life-Affirming Thanksgiving Celebration

THANKS to all who registered - we're expecting about 300 people to attend!  Registration closed on November 19th and there will be absolutely no walk-in registrations.

The VSDC Life-Affirming Thanksgiving is an annual event that brings together vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike in a wonderful social setting.

Celebrate Thanksgiving Day with hundreds of people enjoying a gourmet vegan feast at the annual Vegetarian Society of DC (VSDC) Life-Affirming Thanksgiving Celebration.

The programming includes an engaging guest speaker, exciting door prizes, exhibitors, and a live musical act following lunch. We will also have a silent auction, 50/50 cash drawing, and a raffle (including a Vitamix and Hyatt hotel stay).  Our prize sponsors are listed on the website below.

This has been a very successful event for years so we feel confident that you will leave pleased again this year!

Our keynote speaker will be Elizabeth Kucinich, Policy Director, Center for Food Safety, who has years of experience working on food-related and government affairs issues.

We also have an acoustic guitar performance by member, Stephen Svoboda.

Our exciting, abundant buffet is all-vegan, GMO-free, and has many gluten-free items:

Squash, sweet potato, and corn chowder

Salads / Appetizers

Vegetable crudités (raw vegetables) with artichoke hummus, moroccan carrot dip

Roasted red pepper and walnut spread

Garden salad with pine nuts, avocado, and raspberry vinaigrette

Freshly baked sourdough, crusted olive bread, and pumpkin rolls with herb-infused oil for dipping

Hot Buffet

Wild mushroom ravioli with tomato and fennel broth

Polenta, sausage and mushroom stuffing

Red quinoa pilaf with kale and corn

Spicy collard greens with sun-dried tomatoes

Green bean casserole

Smashed potatoes with mushroom gravy

Seitan Roast

Traditional cranberry Sauce

Vegan pumpkin pie

Spiced cider, iced tea, freshly brewed coffee, and teas

Registration and other information are on the VSDC Thanksgiving page at:

Early registration with a reduced rate was until October 23rd and registrations closed on November 19th.  Reservations are essential; there will be absolutely no walk-in registrations.  Please note that our event has sold out in recent years, so register early to  confirm your seat.

Please note that RSVPing on this Meetup page does not get you into the event. Nor does it guarantee you a place "at the table". This meetup page is simply a way to alert people of the event.  Go to the VSDC website above to register.

--The Washington Humane Society has been the DC area’s leading voice of compassion for pets and wildlife since 1870. VSDC will accept donations from the Washington Humane Society's wish list at our Thanksgiving event.

--So Others May Eat is a community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. They meet the immediate daily needs of the people they serve with food, clothing, and health care, in addition to services to help break the cycle of homelessness. VSDC will be collecting nonperishable vegan food items for SOME’s food bank. Please note that SOME requests that food donations be nonperishable and as healthy as possible. They cannot accept canned soups that are not labeled low-fat, low-sodium.

I sat at a singles table with a woman named Anne (Stewart?). Anne, I'm sorry I missed out on speaking with you. I am kind of shy and also have trouble hearing conversation with a lot of background noise. If you are interested in talking sometime, please email me at [masked].

Going to meetups like this is a great resource. There are also good support groups and recipe ideas on facebook if you have that. Good luck on your journey!
