Please join the Vegetarian Society of DC Book Club discussion of The Bond by Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States.

To participate just read at least half the book -- and RSVP at least two days before the meeting.

This "book isn't just a rich celebration of the deeply entrenched bond between animals and humans; it is also a penetrating alarm about widespread cruelty to animals and the threat to thousands of species now facing extinction. A poignant book for anyone who ever loved a pet." -- Barnes &

We will meet at a vegetarian restaurant (in MD, DC, or VA). Everyone will order on their own and pay directly to the restaurant. People who RSVP "yes" will get the location information. For more details contact Beth through meet up. For more information about the book club (including everything we have read over 20 years!) visit

Be considerate...if your plans change, PLEASE update your RSVP!

Thanks to all for braving the rainy weather and traffic and participating in a thoughtful discussion. And thanks to Puree for the delicious nutritious juice and wonderful meeting place.

John, thanks for RSVPing. Meet up won't let me send you an email with event details, so please send me your email address if you'd like to join us.

My question I always ask: would anything in this book be upsetting?

Not going to be able to make it. I look forward to other events!

Hi! Has the location been determined yet? As long as it's metro-accessible, I am there.

Thanks Erin. I think we will try a new metro accessible place in Bethesda and will keep you posted.

    Hello Shea,
On occasion the vsdc book club meets on a weekend (if the last Wednesday in November is Thanksgiving week or a meeting is postponed due to bad weather). Otherwise we meet the last Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm. Hope you can join us sometime. You also could check meetup for other book discussions on weekends.

Shea - it's going to be hard for me to get up to Bethesda on a weeknight, too. Maybe those of us who can't do weeknights and/or Maryland could meet somewhere in DC on a Saturday or Sunday? (Or Northern Virginia!)

Nicole, Perhaps there are others with restrictive schedules who can make a Sunday afternoon. Maybe in consort with VSDC, we offer that

VSDC - we are happy to host the book club at Teaism Penn Quarter (8th and D NW by the navy memorial metro stop) - lots of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. We have a tucked away corner that would be good for the group - quiet enough for a discussion. We would love to see you. Let me know - Linda at[masked]-0256. Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestion. Our nonfiction discussions take place in Maryland but I will keep it in mind for future events.
