VSDC Book Club discusses "Gilead" by Marilynne Robinson

  • This location is shown only to members

Please join the Vegetarian Society of DC Book Club discussion of Gilead by Marilynne Robinson.

To participate just read at least half the book -- and RSVP at least two days before the meeting.

"Robinson, the author of the classic 'Housekeeping,' has kept readers waiting 23 years for her second novel. It takes the form of a letter, written in the 1950s, from a 70-something Iowa minister to his young son, the product of a late marriage. The Reverend John Ames feels that he is in his final days. Nominally, he is writing down the boy's 'begats' -- three generations of Reverend Ameses, each a little less storied than his forebear -- but he is also sifting his long-considered personal faith." - The New Yorker

Gilead won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

We will meet at a vegetarian restaurant (in MD, DC, or VA). Everyone will order on their own and pay directly to the restaurant. People who RSVP "yes" will get the location information. For more details contact Beth through meet up. For more information about the book club (including everything we have read over 20 years!) visit

Be considerate...if your plans change, PLEASE update your RSVP!

A smaller group than usual but still a fascinating discussion and delicious dinner. Thanks all!

I agree with Helena, but the meeting would need to start sometime between 5 and about 6:30 and be near either the Bethesda station or some other public transportation. You are thankful that I cannot drive.

I'm interested in events in MD and earlier than 7:30PM if the event is during the work week. I appreciate the great work of VSDC!
